    Any recommendations?

I prefer something with a heatsink look, ie alloy stuff

    hey mate
    check out jaycar,
they have some awesome amps which put out decent power, look decent (alloy), i think u can reverse their heatsink as well.
and then get a sub from there or a pioneer or something. the jaycar subs go pretty hard, but for a definite bang for buck amp check out jaycar.

i actually bought a sub from strathfield in fyshwick for $259, i think it was the cheapest of the line one from pioneer but it had a very good quality and design box for the boot, not too deep so it fits perfectly. i already had a schneider amp, sounds >= average.

    i have a alpine V12 mono block,
running a single dual voice coil 12 and god it is loud, spend most of the time with it turned right down.
alpine amps are pretty cheap these days u should be able 2 pick 1 up for less than 350 easy.
mine is this 1 or very simmilar might be the model 340.
