Well went down the the local Nissan place and got two shifter bushings sinse my shifter is all over the place and really needs the bushings replaced.... got onto this site and got up the tech article on how to do it... then i blazed through all the steps up to the part where there are two bolts holding the shifter in its place.. one on top which is easy to get and one under which is IMPOSSIBLE to unscrew at least i think so.. i cant even fit one hand under there and dont have enough rotation space to get it loose :wacko::wacko: how do people mange to do it  do u guys have any suggestions? or should i just take it to the mechanic and get em to do it or what :wacko:

Hi Alex, don't give up mate you are nearly there. I did those bushes about 8 months ago and trust me it was worth the trouble. But why the car was designed with that bolt facing downwards is a question you could ask of a hell of a lot of the Z32's design. I'm starting to think it was done on purpose so that the cars could be sold new and then scrapped fairly quickly to make way for a new model. Anyway as I remember it I was just able to get the ring end of a combination spanner onto it and maybe tapped the other "open ender" with a hammer. You have to be very imaginative with these cars and be prepared to go down to the tool store and buy extra weird tools. But I did it with my basic sidchrome set. One tip I can give you though is to stuff a large towel down under where you are working and make a little nest like depression in it so that if any nuts fall you can retrieve them easily in this nest otherwise they drop into the exhaust heat shields and you won't see them until you remove your exhaust system. Sorry I can't be of more help as it was so long ago that I did mine. But keep plugging away at it yourself. Don't give it to the mechanic as some can be very heavy handed. You can do it Alex!! Keep trying. Ask your mates for a hand. Good luck. Cheers. Clive.

i did it from underneath with the tail shaft off (had the tailshaft off already though)

you should be able to undo the nut from above though

all i can suggest is get under the car and see if you can get your hand past the tail shaft

theres a couple of times that ive thought.. 'nah way man'

but knowing there have been others that have done it.. helps you strive on.. and yes it is possible.. just keep that in your mind.. as well as 'if they can, then i can'

helps alot to keep a positive attitude

    I used a 1/4 inch drive socket

A spanner would also work though.

Excellent - I've never seen a socket ratchet thingo with a pivot there.

Will have to keep my eyes open for one (or three - quarter, three eighth and half inch)

I did my bushings without undoing the bottom bolt

When i replaced the shifter bushings I couldn't get the bolt undone as some japanese monkey had rounded the head off, so I perservered and replaced the bushings without undoing it. Was tricky, but doable, and I don't have little hands.

    Good luck

    There's no trick

It was fairly easy to get the passenge side in, but the drivers side was much harder. Just keep persisting til you get it.

Yep, can be done...just stick with it

Even managed it with my fat little fingers. From memory, I used a short ring spanner. Oh, and don't forget...lots of cursing helps too
