Has anyone here with the ASI 56mm radiator replaced the 'O' ring on the stopcock at the bottom of the radiator? Should I replace the rubber ring with copper or leather or something more durable? The stopcock is a wingnut set up so I guess you aren't meant to over tighten these things.

Mine was leaking slightly after a 20 minute drive into the city last night. Not much I could do about it at the time except guess it was the stopcock, as there is nothing else that could leak coolant from that area. Got home and raised the zed - sure enough 'O' ring weeping a bit. A bit of tighten and all seems good. But, yer, is there a better seal I can use?

PS - is this thing actually called a stopcock:eek:? There must be a better name for it:).

Drain valve? A light film of vaseline helps it seat. Can use on cock too ;)

My O ring disentrigrated but I had no o-rings on hand, so wrapped the plastic screw in heaps of thread tape and no more leaking (mind you, I don't touch it anymore when emptying the rad - taking the bottom hose off is much faster!)

Yes, I've replaced mine about 3 times in the last year, there is no recess for the o-ring on the dodgy things. I taped the thread as well as a new o-ring last time around and gently tightened it and she's been good ever since.

replaced mine with a nylon washer. As Andymac stated, the radiator doesnt come with a recess for the o-ring to sit in, thus when tightening the drainage bung, the o-ring is pinched and stretches out. 2 years later with the nylon washer, no dramas to report.
