When i was going to fit it to my car i was planning to cut about 1-1.5cm (i had it measured perfect amount for our a-pillar). Was going to use a hacksaw to cut it, 4 small flat allen screws to hold it against the pillar. Having it set up like this will fit snug, i did it on my mates car and it was great. They obviously will not look very nice if you 'just' attatch it to the a-pillar, better off getting the $90 autometer in that case.
