Sooo... I thought I'd tinker a bit and fix a couple of things on my Zed. Replaced the central locking actuator in the drivers side door and cleaned my pod filter and AFM then I thought Hmmmmm I might as well top up the oil and check my coolant... Dah dah da ddaaarrrrrr! (sinister music plays in the background) Ohh shyte, is that oil in my coolant? Yep! ...and in the overflow tank! Dam... it was driving fine and I wouldn't have known if I hadn't checked. So off to the mechanics and as I suspected it's a blown head gasket which usually means machining the heads as well. The quote was around the 3K mark and now I'm thinking... she's done over 400 thousand K I might as well drop another engine into it. To add salt to the wound I'd only just recieved my 100 thous K service kit through the post lol! Anyone know any good Engine joints who are reliable??
You would be in a much worse situation IF there is any evidence of Water/Coolant in the sump/oil(better make sure of that BEFORE you make a commitment to repair that engine). Either way, you are better off getting a "known" good engine and dropping that in(you can then take time to examine your old unit and repair, if advisable). Labour costs are the real "killer" with these cars, parts are relatively cheap(by comparison). Good Luck Mate.
Im sitting in an a rebuilt engine No longer have a zed (well its a shell now) I've moved on. Its a TT that is overbored a bit, forged (eagle and Wiseco) internals, Oem gaskit kit, ARP head bolts, stock rebuild on the heads, new knock sensor/harness, new oil pump, new water pump, not sure on the Cams they are stock but not hard to ascertain what they are by having a look, auto vs manual. All done by Rollin (Niall) one of our resident Zed mechs. Basically its a stock rebuild with forged internals and aftermarket head bolts. Niall painted it red, I went over it in black which i might remove the black as its engine enamel so its not hard yet as the engine hasn't been hot yet to bake it. the other thing that it could use is the cam covers get powder coated.. Could just sell it as a long block and you can fit your 100/200K parts although I have most of that also with the exception of a hydraylic tensioner. As I said im out of Z32 now so, I dont expect/need top dollar just something reasonable that doesnt make me cry, the Mid 2K would be good, its in QLD so would need to E-GO it to you (would have a cradle made to support it and crate it to protect it) it was done about 4 years ago and been sitting in my fathers workshop protected, don't have much in the way of receipts moved house too many times for that, you could verify what i am saying with Niall or have a forum member take a look at it. havent been arsed trying to sell it, was sort of putting it off, dreaming of a Z32 vert with wide body and TT and Manual conversion... pm if you want to know more.

I got a NA engine sitting around. Was a 150rwkw engine when it ran strong. 174,000kms. It needs new lifters AND/OR heavy duty valve springs. If you need a cheap fix take the motor directly to a engine place and tell them to check the valve train in cylinder 1 and plug straight into your zed.
