Just a question on AIV's, my drivers side one has started making a gurgling noise recently.
I have gone through a few big puddles and think this may have been how the water got in..
Anyone have similar issues in winter with AIVs?
Thinking I can wait for it to dry out in summer?

    Thoughts???

Mine are sitting in the cupboard in the shed. They don't gurgle anymore :p

If you wan't to keep them follow the tech article to drain them or drill a small hole in the rubber tubing to allow the water to drain.

    plug it

Or you could just disconnect the vacuum line and put a screw in it ( 2 minutes)

either remove them or as someone said...drill small holes at the bottom or the tubing to rid exess water

They were desgined to pump air into the exhaust pipes to burn up more emissions, due to the emission laws back in 89 - 93 after 93 nissan dropped the AIV system as they made a better ECU tune which burnt all the require emissions without the need for the AIV. I removed mine a couple of weeks ago as my passenger side was gurgling. heres my guide on how to remove the units from your zed completely.

They are Air Injection Valves. They are to aid in warming the cat converters up when the car is cold. The ecu dumps more fuel into the cylinders, tells the AIV's to open and this allows air to enter directly into the exhaust. The air and fuel burn, heating up the cats and reducing emissions quicker, but at the expense of really high emissions for a short amount of time.

Nissan discontinued them in the '94+ Z's. That should be enough encouragement to remove them ;)
