hey guys, as some of you may have guessed, i have purchased my 2nd z32 :zlove:

i have a few questions that i have to ask after hours of searching and lurking on threads here.

Typical of a zed the air con no longer works correctly, had issues with my last one also that were never fixed properly. Anyway i recently had a auto sparky have a look to see what was wrong. we initially thought it just needed a re-gas, but no the compressor leaked out all the refrigerant out the front of the compressor and all over my engine  .
I ended up taking my zed home (free of charge  ) after talking about sourcing parts through his suppliers, ended up deciding to look for parts myself as his parts were wayyyy out of my budget.

A friend of mine that is also on the forums has a tt that he is wreaking for parts to be put onto his other zed, so i pinched a compressor off of him, not knowing if its any good or not.

so my first question is will a TT A/C compressor fit a N/A?

Also while at the sparkys shop i asked how long he thought it would take to install the new compressor and regas it up, he said it should take 4-5 hours, is this a reasonable amount of time to do this task? or am i better off installing it myself and then getting it regassed? (yes im a tight arse :p )

Also what would you guys recommend i do to my new zed as far as servicing goes? im planning to replace most of the fluids in the car with quality gear, thinking of getting some bits n pieces from a 100,000 service. according to the previous owner, most of the belts have been changed recently, im yet to have a real good look at them, should i worry?
the car has done 175,000k's (original motor/box) and has the 100,000k service sticker written in jap so its useless to me.

im hoping to get this asap so any quick info you guys could offer would be great :D

And please dont hesitate to suggest parts i may need to replace as a preventative measure.

    cheers, josh

Some bits and pieces won't do for this type of car. You'll be far better off doing a 100k full service. If a belt snaps your in real big trouble. They sell kits to do the lot yourself.
But once you've got all the servicing up to date you'll have a great car which you'll enjoy as long as you keep looking after her.
I have air con probs too so I'm no help there but will be keeping an eye out for what the experts say here.

Just done the regas today. Took only 30 mins. You can change the compressor by your self. You need 12mm ring spanner and lots of Z motivation. easy job though once you have once. Make sure to do the leak test before regas the system. Also it is a good idea to replace the receiver dryer under nose panel.

not sure if i have mentioned this before, the compressor i have got spare hasnt been tested to see if it works or not, can i do somthing myself to see if its good or will i have to wait n take it to the sparkys to get tested?

i was thinking of replacing the drier as well, anybody sell them in aus? only seen them overseas, not keen on waiting for that long, its getting quite warm in Mildura again :/

any auto aircon place will be able to supply drier and fittings. I was quoted $90 including fitting. Just check if the compressor spins OK without any issues. Not sure how to test before you regas and install in your car. Check with your aircon guy.

compressor pulley spins fine so one less thing to worry about haha

so a generic drier will be fine then? ill just ask the mech to fit one while he's at it, ill try and book the zed in for tomorrow or friday, will keep you guys posted on results ;)

I have learnt with these cars, get it done once and get it done right. A/C can be a real PITA. My previous Z was leaking gas from the compressor. I bought a second hand one for $200 and had it installed. Total cost was about $700 (with drier, gas etc). It worked great for about 2 weeks and the same thing happened to it. So then I had to do it all again. Its about $700 to have the compressor reconditioned so I was up for another $1200. Remeber these cars are now 20 years old, and so are most of the second hand parts. Also be carefully as there are actually quiet a few different types or compressor for these cars. The first one I got (even though it was off a similar year TT) did not fit. There are a few brands and models so the pipes come off the compressors in different places.
    Goos luck.

yeah i had the same issue with getting a second hand one i thought i would be saving money but it ended up costing a shitload more than if i had just brought a re conditioned one like i have now. Its working great so far *touch wood*

brought the compressor in to get looked at before i put it in, its no good :(

really dont ant to spend huge cash on a new compressor but i might have to. if you know of anybody thats selling a working one, thats in working condition let me know ;) ill weigh up the cost of the two and see if its worth getting a new one or not
