Hi guys. Got a question I'm hoping someone can answer (with authority :)).

I've just got myself some "new" rims (YAY !!!). When shopping around, I was told something I'd not heard before, so thought I'd better check it out.

When the wheel fits to the hub, there's two types of fitment, hub centric and stud centric.
Hub Centric needs the rim to fit to a centre ring for load bearing, and the studs are only for holding the wheel on.
Stud Centric uses the studs for clamping and centreing (hence tapered holes).

    What's the Z?

My original wheels seem to centre themselves (like hub centric would), but my new wheels seem more stud centric to me.

Oh, here's the new ones. 18" x 8.5" all round, nice dish....

    Benny_C About as subtle as...

Essentially our rims are in fact centred on the HUB locator ring. If your ring recess in the actual rim doesn't fit our hub ring, you can get some plastic ring inserts that will basically adapt them to locate perfectly on our hub ring diameters.

This is why sometimes when people need to use the "washer" style wheel spacers to allow their rims to clear the calipers, they have all types of wheel balancing issues due to this spacer pushing the rim out just far enough not to sit in the hub locator ring.

Thanks for the info. Makes sense.

Where's the easiest place to buy these? EBay? Wheel Retailer?

    Thanks.
