Hi all after having the z parked up for a bit ( working full time and uni as well ) i have decided that the uni degree can go on hold for a while. The good news here is the Z gets taken out of moth balls and the project continues I am still at the point of needing a tune and was wondering what peoples opinions on newer after market computers that self tune are. My z has a few mods and is not a daily driver ( have a Jeep rubicon for that )
haltech if you can afford it. they have a new plug and play unit for the z32.. there expensive but have so many features its not funny. * - Fully user-definable 32 x 32 mapping ( Up to 1024 points) * - Wideband "Auto tuning" using user definable target AFR table * - Narrow and Wideband closed loop O2 control * - Staged injection control for multiple injectors per cylinder (inc rotary) * - 3D mapped rotary engine ignition split * - Soft and hard cut rev limiter * - EGT fuel correction * - Tuning via TPS with manifold pressure correction * - Dual map switching for fuel/ign/boost * - Anti-lag (Rally and Launch style) * - Rotational idle * - Launch Control * - VTEC cam timing control * - VANOS cam control (intake cam only) * - True variable cam control supporting late model Toyota's, WRX's and EVO's * - Dual intake runner control * - Onboard 2.5 BAR MAP sensor (or use with external MAP up to 10 BAR) * - Custom sensor calibration (Use your own sensors for temps or fuel/oil pressure etc) * - Open or closed loop boost control ( Road speed, RPM or gear based mapping) * - Closed loop idle control (Stepper motor and BAC type) * - Extra injector control * - Thermo-fan control ( Duty cycle or on/off ) * - Intercooler fan/spray * - Alternator control (Mazda) * - Engine control relay function * - Nitrous switching with fuel / ignition correction * - Staged shift lights * - Aux fuel pump control * - Tacho output (5v,8v,12v) * - Turbo timer * - Torque converter lock up * - Air con request idle up * - Windows 2000, XP, Vista compatible software * - "In the field" updatable Firmware provides all the new features as soon as they are available * - Onboard and laptop data logging with Data Viewer software * - USB communication with laptop/PC * - CAN Bus port for direct plug in communication with Racepak and Aim Dash system.
Haltech Platinum Sport 2000 comes with Z32 harness and you can get them for $2400 in Aus. Few reseller stock them. The good thing is you can plug and play the new ECU and get default setup with your laptop for bigger injectors to start with and then get a proper tune in Dyno which will cost lot less than nistune. Simmo can correct me if I am wrong. I was planning to get power FC or microtech, but after speaking with some tuner it is sensible to go with haltech SP 2000 for extra $700.
The haltech is certainly fancy. Would definitely not go a PFC over Nistune, not worth the headaches with the Z and making a skyline one work. It all depends on how far you want to go. If you want to go all out with the engine then get the Haltech, if not just go a Nistune. Or go to a Nistune tuner they will be able to tune it and just burn you a chip you don't need the daughter board.
Th other option is a Haltech E6, should be some old stock still about and can be supplied with a z32 harness connector. Alot cheaper option than the PS2000.
haltech is crazy , considering it does boost control, traction control , launch control all out of the box. is amazing. means u can sell all your old gear aswell. problem with nistune is the limited number of tuners
Cheers guys sounds like the haltech is the go it was the one i was thinking about as its simpler and i have to do the tuning myself as there are not a lot of people in moranbah who can
Haltech is real easy if you are half smart with tuning and have a WB02. Basically you need to keep the ball in the middle of the X when in tuning mode.
The E6x unfortunately cannot do full sequential injection on 6cylinders with coil packs, although it can do semi sequential with distributor. Although I was told it could by certain dealers, then finally found out the cold truth It couldn't. Haltech just don't tell you the full truth on their website. I am still extremely happy with the functions of the ECU, and the simplicity of it. No more MAF problems and inbuilt MAP sensor, auto TPS calibration, just wish I had gone for the full sequential version :bash: Both versions though are fully compatable with the Nissan CAS, Microtech on the other hand told me I needed a special wheel for the Nissan CAS, no idle up function. Having no idle up function does not suggest to me it is ok for street driveability, so I think they did not tell the truth either.
I have been playing with tuning my dirt bike ( CRF450r 09 ) and have been finding quite a bit more safe power and managed to smooth the throttle response as well so i am hoping all the lessons learnt there pay off with the z. I have a wb02 i can borrow but i am thinking of fitting on to the z full time Cheers all for the response
I've been running a MicroTech on my TT 'Daily Driver' for the past 4 years, without any driveability problems(and definitely no CAS modification). I don't know who told you that info.
Nistune not really after-market but Nistune not really after-market (independent companies ECU) but has been proven to give some nice performance increases (e.g. VH45-V8-NA from 180rwkw to 200rwkw) by only advancing the timing and leaning off the fuel-maps from Nissan ridiculous fuel flooding when the engine is under load.
Adaptronic 420c. Im more than happy with it. Every feature as above (Haltech) less anti-lag (not necessary) but including traction control. Semi-sequential and wasted spark only for a 6 cyl (meh) Unbeateable at HALF the price. Limited plug and play availability at the minute. Excellent aftersales support. So a scratch fit up tho. Not for the really faint of heart but dooable easily enough if you can follow a wiring schematic and can solder. L8r E
With Nistune can still connect in the ecuTalk With Nistune can still connect in the ecuTalk diagnostics tool plus the other diagnostics tools such as ConZult.
Microtech dealer towards goldcoast. I told him it's a Z32 cas and he said I would need a new trigger wheel...
Tassu how much did the adaptronic cost, did you need a tune? Same setup as mine, it was pretty exciting when it fired up, the coil packs I mean. Earths 12v's and PTU wiring blah, hope I don't ever have to pull the wires apart again.
Hahaha, always a bit of a moment when powering up and then cranking over for the first time. The Adaptronic comes with nothing loaded by way of a tune but i simply used an RB25det CAS setup and downloaded a basic tune off the Adaptronic files section. My 420c cost $1180 with a 2 meter wiring loom and a 3 bar map sensor. I use the stock Delco type coolant sensor and i already had an AIT sensor laying around. L8r E
