I'm in the market for new coilpacks. I know some of the guys out there use split fire coil packs, and others have gone down different plans.
Interested to know some real world feedback on this topic.
I've killed my 4th (yes, 4th) S2 PTU, so I'm renewing the entire ignition system-ECU to spark plugs, and coil packs are on the list. Wiring loom included.
    Shoot!

I'm going to add HKS unit to split fires after finding ignition breaking down with big boost.

There's a group buy on through coz at the moment if you jump in quick you can still get the discount.

    Anti 14.7 x 14.7 = 44.1

One you **** off that cursed loom, standard coil packs will do you just fine...

Can only be a better and a more efficient combustion than without .

Don't ask me silly noob questions though like whats the power figure difference..
But A More efficient engine makes more power everywhere.

I'm using yellow jackets, was nothing wrong with my stockos, but found these to be pretty good. Could increase the plug gap on same boost.

I'm using an ignition amp different but same to the HKS unit. Was plug and play but got Chris to hardware it. Saved getting new connectors also. Works a treat.

We did LS2 truck coils on my mate's GTR. He was previously running splitfires and still blowing out spark at 0.5mm gap on 20psi .
Not sure if the factory ECU will really bring out the big spark of the LS2 coils, you need to increase injector dwell time to get the most out of them. I think you can adjust this in Nistune. No PTU required with the LS2 coils.

You can get the genuine GM/ACDelco coils off ebay for about $50ea including wiring plugs. Then you need to buy a set of leads, we used MSD brand (about $70) and cut them to suit the mounting location in the GTR. We haven't run the car on the dyno yet but we are starting with a 1.1mm plug gap and seeing how much boost it takes to blow out the spark, expecting max boost to be somewhere around 35psi so

The links below show an install in a 32 GTR, wiring should be very similar to 300ZX which also uses PTU. I'd consider doing it on my car but my coilpacks/PTU is working perfectly even with 1.1mm gap at 20psi.

    Anyone done this in a Z ?

Be good to see results and setup

Obviously you would have a good after market ECU as well .
