Im after the BAD things about DRIVING a 300zx. (probably the worst place to ask but i thought id get an honest answer here) eg: is the rear view narrow? or hard to see? stuff like that :zlove:
it can really be quite annoying when all these 18-20 yr old girls start throwing their underwear at me :lame:
Thats a common problem now days with Z's I would say blind spot is the worst on the 2 seater. Also the ride hight I mange to scrape evrything lol
Hmmmmm Bad things. Hmmmmmmm Ill think of somthing give me a sec. Well nothing comes to mind. Its not like its a tedious car to drive or anything.
1/Its impossible to go anywhere without being seen by someone 2/Filling up with juice takes 3 times as long as normal,5 mins to fill the car,10 mins answering peoples stupid questions 3/People keep taking photos of you when you pull up at the lights so if you are a paranoid person, never get a zed :zlove:
- It can be deceptively expensive to maintain. More than potential buyers expect for a $15,000 dollar car. - Blind spots can be a little more blind than some other cars. - Standard headlights suck - Poorly maintained examples can be horror stories, generally everything you hear from owners of other imports about the 300zx.
*Crap turning radius/circle at low speed (in parking lot etc) *Huge blind spot *Horrid engine bay, its literally a completed jigsaw puzzle, super unfriendly *Tendency to overheat due to above reason / more care needed (which is fine by me) *Poorly made gearbox, even the 97+ spec manual gearbox is not that great ...and thats about it, other than that its of absolute beauty :zlove: The last one disappoints me the most, the rest I can live up with. I don't know many people with perfectly working synchros haha.
some proper answers I've had my zed for 7 years now, and still love it.. But with that, I have also come to accept its faults: 1) Most zeds are now 18-19 years old. Things wear and need replacing. So dont be expecting a brand new car. 2) maintenance can be expensive. If you do most work yourself and have some patience, its not so bad. But parts are still expensive. If you get mechanics to do the work, be prepared to pay thousands. 3) The engine bay is tight. Trivial things on other cars are an absolute pain on the zed. Once again, it just takes knowldege and patience to do the work. But be prepared to lose some skin on your hands. 4) The whole car is quite complex and only takes a sensor or wire to be out of wack for the car not to run right. These problems can be easily fixed when found, but you'll pull your hair out trying to find the problem sometimes. 5) The zed interior can develop rattles and squeaks from the interior trim. You can go to great lengths to try and fix the rattles and squeaks, but you're combatting 18-19 years of interior wear in all types of weather conditions. Having said that, the interior is very comfortable. 6) They can eat fuel. A well maintained and properly running zed is not so bad, but it is still a performance sports car from the 90's.... so dont expect the fuel economy that you see in todays cars... They are my main gripes with zed ownership. She's not perfect, but in my opinion, still one of the best looking cars on the road. And all the negatives dissapear from your mind when you're cruising the great ocean rd with the targa'sff on a nice sunny day.... Cheers
I agree, they have a real bad turning circle and the nose can be deceptive especially in carparks, ive had a few near misses myself Also if youve got an 8k budget as it says in your sig, be prepared to pay all the extras that the zed likes to throw at you when you least expect it:zlove: Personally i find all these things minor issues though, as theres nothing quite like cruising on a warm night, targras off, theyre great cars to drive Never heard that before whats wrong with em?
what blindspots??.. surely the most tiny one, but thats nothing compared to my skyline/VL thats nothing.
The major problems I have are scraping everything if I don't go over bumps slow, though that's my fault for lowering it and the blind spot. I don't know about 2+2's, but in the 2 seater you cannot see cars in you right blind spot at all. Even if you look over your shoulder, because the window is so deep within the piller. I solve this problem by having my drivers side wing mirror on a massive angle outwards. Oh, and the cramped engine bay... Other common problems can be found here: http://www.zeeyalater.net/comprob1.htm
-Blind spots to the rear? -Depending on your height / seating position you might struggle to see what speed you are doing due to intrument cluster / steering wheel config -It's very easy to justify spending money on it. If you don't have a lot of money, you can't really afford to have many hobbies... -You don't always feel comfortable leaving it in 'dodgy' areas even though the actual cost of the car isn't high, it is a target. -Tweed is ghey -The HICAS can be unpredictable and due to the age many of the Z's out there HICAS is malfunctional. Mine was like this. Caused a few moments. -These cars are getting on in age. They won't be perfect. You will need to spend money on them. -Not many mechanics will like working on them. If you are not prepared to spend a few hours working on it yourself every so often, look elsewhere. (Unless you have a decent Z mechanic nearby) -They are addictive. This is either a negative or a positive depending on how you look at it. :zlove:
are you serious about blind spot???? You talking blind spot in side mirrors??? Because i have NO blind spot in my missors, none what so ever, if i cant see a car (or part of) in my side mirror, thats because hes right beside me.
yer like expecialy the drivers side from the rear qauter to the end of the car when I first had my NA I cut of a few people then I didnt drive the Z for a bit and got the TT and cut of a few more people
Synchros are still no where near perfect, 2nd gear grind (again). I know a dude who is onto his third box, all under warranty ofcourse. Yeah.. squeaks, rattles, screech etc etc can be quite annoying sometimes....but I think general consent is the the Z is a bloody amazing car...well you'd thinks so, thats why we are all here. :zlove:
bad things about DRIVING only as thats what i believe you asked for (some people dont/cant read ) I will however expand this slightly to the "interior experience from a drivers perspective" Leaks Targas/windows can leak. Its an old car. This happens. OEM Seals (to my shock) are in the $500 range Driving Position I find the driving position a little snug for the legs. I can't quite find the right place between having my knees in my face, and the pedals too far from my feet. Might just be me though Blind spot: This is VERY real. The previouse owner had the for thought to add lane changers to mine. These look tacky but I SWEAR they are a LIFE SAVER. Even on the 2+2, looking over your sholder (drivers side) gives you a nice view of the inside of the rear pillar.. and nothing else. I can look in my rear view and see NOTHING Look in the normal wing mirror and see NOTHING Look in the little lane changer and there is a car right there!!!!! My lane changers are all scratched to shit now (dont clean reflective plastic with windex people ) and I WILL be getting some more. YOU NEED THEM!!!!! Understeer: Didn't realise Zeds do this until the Motokana day last weekend. But they do.... and rather badly. Will you come across this in daily driving? I highly doubt it Power Especially with a TT version, even stock... dont underestimate it. A turbo kicking in at the wrong moment on a wet road is fun for the freaks, but for the rest of us, it can be a worry. But thats why you buy the car. So it's a bit like owning a gun. You KNOW its dangerouse.. so just dont point it at your face And that is all from me As a drivers car...... I might HATE the damn thing when venting on the forums and chatting to mates... but when I walk back out to it, and get in, and sink into the "pilots seat" it is all forgiven.
