Hi guys The stereo currently in my car has died. Basically it goes to full volume and stays there. I'm looking at replacing it, can anyone offer advice of a flip screen head unit that will fit a Z? Cheers
i bought a slide out, fold up dvd one from ebay. was a bit hesitant at first but its been fine. i put it in myself and it does the job. do ur homework first if ur going to go that way. rhys
I have a clarion one that came with the z, no issues with it except it didnt have an aux cable, but a mayes putting one in for me atm Im sure a newer one would have one
im actually running this in my car at the moment... love it to death http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/D1306-Eonon-Car-1Din-7-Digital-LCD-TV-CD-DVD-Player-2c-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem53e5b6d3f0QQitemZ360336249840QQptZCarQ5fAudioQ5fVideo
You'll have to scroll down. I bought this one:http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180594609355&ssPageName=ADME:X:eRTM:AU:1123 Not as refined as the $1K equivalent brand name head units, but it does everything that it says.
You want one that can do bluetooth - both for the phone and streaming music. Then it needs to be able to handle a usb stick, SD card, line input and Ipod. Aah, and receive radio stations too. It's also nice with actual buttons to press rather than touch controls. I have JVC's in my cars PS It's great to have a standard din slot for the radio rather than an integrated unit. My wifes 2003 honda is driving us batty trying to interface it with modern technology
you can pick up one for about $340 that has all that AND gps i was actually looking at upgrading to it
http://clarion.com/au/en/products/2...ts/VZ400A/au-en-product-pf_1259413421612.html $799 RRP... should be able to get it a little cheaper.. great headunits..
This is what I'm going to upgrade to at some point in the future, I've got the same unit, just a few years older
Thanks for the input guys. I'm not really concerned with how it looks, more that its quality, has most of the desireable features, and most of all, that it will fit.
Hey mate if your looking for a quality non flip screen head unit look into a Clarion 500za i have one in my car and it's fantastic...great quality, 3 RCA pre outs, bluetooth, usb connection, aux, 18 pre set fm radio stations and BBE Compression....looks great as well...set you back around 500$
I bought one of these for Caz' Prado late last year: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/7-2-DIN-CAR-DVD-PLAYER-RADIO-GPS-BLUETOOTH-DVB-T-IPOD-/130484253527?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1e6177b357 I cannot fault it in any way, and cheap as chips when you consider the functions it has. Has an ISO plug connector too if ever I need to replace it with something better down the track. The always on GPS (IGO 8) is just so useful. I haven't put another one in the Zed (though I was very tempted) because I am fascinated to see where Android will be going this year. There is already one Android based head unit out there (called Parrot would you believe) but lots more Android based appliances are in the pipeline. My Android phone (and the Android market) is just remarkable for example. Sometime this year I expect to see all manner of mass marketed Android 2.2 or even 3.0 devices, including the combo car dvd/stereo/gps/bluetooth/yada yada units, with a bonus of direct access to the operating system. That will open up a whole new world of apps and utility of these things in the auto world and render the car pc obsolete overnight. Internet and email access through your head unit in the McDonalds car park Wifi will be easy as, just like a smart phone. I reckon GPRS will be there too. There is already a Nissan Diagnostic App for Android I see - refer the item in ZRNT. The 1Ghz processor seems to be the standard in the Android ePad market, and I guess the sky is the limit from there over the future. The unit in the Prado I mentioned above has an on board 400Mhz processor running Win CE 5, but I haven't been able to work out how to get to the OS yet. However, there is at least one current Win CE unit out there that offers direct OS access (Chinavasion), and I understand it struggles to run a browser properly on the 400Mhz processor. The appearance of Android has made all of this stuff much more interesting. So I am going to sit, watch and wait for a time before I upgrade the Zed head unit.
I have the same as Angrybear's in my Z all I can say is 'IT'S THE BEST' it does the works. Bit tricky to fit though. Fascia modification rqd. But if done with care it is worth it big time. Almost forgot, the only -ve is that the screen can be glarry depending on the position of the sun. Not the units fault, it is just the way it is angled in the Z. This may put some people off but does not bother me. Peter
