hey guys, my first post! quick intro, had my 300 for about six months and slowly learning what i can. I don't know much about cars, before the 300 i just put the key in and it ran! ;)

i've just purchased a conzult cable from Caz and started having a look at the car. I'm getting error code 13 and from what i understand it's either the wiring or the engine coolant temperature sensor that i need to replace. Does anyone have some recommendations about how i can confirm which it is?

I'm running datascan and it's also showing that the o2 sensor is getting no reading (stays on 0 - even after a 20+ min run). The o2 sensor right side seems to be getting readings - does this mean that it's working and i'm just not getting any info from it? or that i need to look at replacing them? I have been getting grey smoke from the exhaust under high acceleration - but i need to replace my exhaust system anyway, so not sure it that is part of the problem aswell.

Is the o2 sensor problem the reason datascan is also saying that i'm running lean?

    any advice would be appreciated!

    Welcome Zander

It may be worth giving the coolant sensors terminals a thourough clean, failing that I have an old one that's fine if you need it to positively determine the problem. Regarding the O2 sensors I'm sure that datascan reads only off the left O2 sensor. My left isn't working but my right is, yet I also get nothing from datascan on O2's. Goodluck, kolin ps, I'm in Adelaide too. Northside

    Welcome to the forum

Both of my 02's work fine... I would say that the left one is dead... So change both...

Clean the coolent temp plug and sensor and see if that code comes up.. If it still does replace them...

Yeah my A/F goes form lean to rich all the time... Thats how its sopose to work from what i can tell..

    Wow your temp is high...

Good luck with fixing the problems

    Considering your "Closed Trottle"

switch is on, I would suggest your TPS voltage needs resetting to 0.45v.
If you are auto, then this will have efects on your gear change rpm and gear change quality.
Temps is a little high unless you have been for a hard run, especially in these winter ambient temps.
It's normal for the lean/rich signal to alternate.
O2 sensor reading of 0 indicate a faulty sensor or wiring, change both at the same time. They can often read relatively static at idle but usually toward the middle of the range, but both o2s sensor readouts should move wildly from about 20 to 80 at about 2000rpm in neutral.

Agree with Greg. Clean Coolant Temp connectors and TPS (which is sensed by datascan0. Remember, if you adjust the TPS, disconnect it with the motor running for 10 secs after adjustment so that ECU resets.

Also Zander, Datascan is configurable. You are just displaying LH oxygen sensor. There are more than 12 sensors so you need to reconfigure datascan to display the RH sensor. Go to "Settings", "setup" (I think) to select the sensors you want to have displayed and pick the ones that are useful to you. I have attached a pick of datascan I ran that shows the 2 x oxygen sensors in the first 2 gauges.

You'll notice TPS (throttle) on this is .44. This is good. .44 and .46 are both good as datascan only displays by increments of .02 and .45 is the objective.

    Cheers,

    Peter

I also agree, temp at over 90 is getting high. Suggest getting a TWD (temperature warning device) off a member of this forum. It will trigger a warning lamp when temp hits 95. OEM temp gauge is vague.

    Cheers,

    Peter

    hey azzuro,

have been trying to come along to the last few cruises, but i keep having something on! just sold my house, so i had to spend that sunday moving everything out!!

i haven't had any time since posting to work on the car :(

one thing that i have noticed is that the A/F ratio doesn't fluctuate from LEAN to RICH, it is constantly LEAN. hopefully i'll get some time this weekend to clean the sensors and see what happens.
