    Hi all

I recently helped out a new member 2BSEEN with some issues on his auto TT Zed. We used my Nissan datascan to help with resetting TPS and Idle and all ok there.

We did however, run into some MINOR trouble setting the timing? After reading the tech section we lossened the 3 bolts clamping the CAS and tapped it counter clockwise to bring the timing down from 33ish degrees to the stated 15degrees. However, we ran out of adjustment at 23 degrees (using Datascan to read the adjustments).

I'm sure stock timing is 15 degrees on an auto TT (stock)

Is there anything we missed and importantly, how do we get more adjustment to the stated 15 degrees for stock?
    Cheers, Pete

I am pretty sure that timing at idle for an automatic is 25 degrees.

Software doesn't know where your crank is, it only knows what the CAS is telling it, you need a timing light to "set" the CAS timing.

Using an extension HT lead as per the manual not the PTU loop that is only used for RPM. see workshop manual EF&EC 35.

Only ever found timing quoted as 15 in the workshop manual but 25 seems to be the consensus for an automatic.

Generally the CAS should be around the middle of its adjustment, so on an auto at 25 it should be around the middle, not sure how the ECU works out when your off idle and slips back to 15 base, if its not around the middle check your TPS as this may be how the ECU determines you are off idle also maybe your RPM.

EDIT: Just looked through all my manuals and timing is quoted at 15, except what is apparently a 96 manual (printed 95), it quotes 10 for NA and 15 for TT.

use a timing light , No1cyl and timing marks, Datascan assumes 15BTDC, you can't use datascan for base timing
    As Brisz said:eek:

Once you have checked the timing correctly (using the timing light) and you still don't have enough adjusment then the likely culprit is the timing belt being off a cog or two

Timing for autos at idle is 15* in neutral, 25* in gear.
From a cold start it could be as much as 35* in neutral, until operating temp is reached.

Is the closed throttle / idle switch inside the TPS working OK?

This is the wrong way around no? Timing should be 25* at idle and 15* in gear...
