Well I have been putting my build thread off for ages as I generally just cbf and am missing a heap of pics from my bro's camera we can't find but I figured I'd just bite the bullet and stop being lazy! Silver 1989 MT TT Slicktop Carsales pics Before pics When I bought her she was pretty stock, had rims, sound system, exhaust and some BOVs.. I planned to keep her that way but.. you know how that works :zlove: First thing I did was remove the nismo sticker from the front windscreen and pull out the blue neons from the footwells and swap the turbosmart sticker on the rear quarter window for some aus300 stickers.. Then got a turbotech boost controller and a tuned chip from Karl for 14psi. All was going well.. until I had so many people tell me I drove a boat and started to believe them.. turns out shes not a boat after all and I managed to hydrolock her in a flooded street.. she still ran but had some bearing rattle and the clutch was going.. so I ofcourse did the logical thing and built a forged engine and dumped that in! Need to sort out my HKS VPC and dual intake first..
Looks great man. I like the engine Only thing I don't like is the front bar really. Did you rebuild the engine yourself?
What are those windage screens for? Never even heard of them... Edit: Just had a Google, they seem good. Any comments from yourself about them?
You'll be pleased to know that this is how she looks today! All work to the car has been done by myself, engine assembly was done by a mates shop and he bolted the heads on for me also to save me buying a torque wrench, I took it from there :zlove:
Hard to say really as there were so many mods done at once! I just did some research and liked concept, figured for the price and very little effort to install during engine assembly it was worth giving it a go.
No, the screen is very sturdy and the welds are good quality and once the sump is bolted on through the screen bracket nothing is moving anywhere. If they fall off I would probs notice and its been almost 30,000kms since my build and no issues!
The motor works as an 'air pump' in the combustion chambers, drawing in fuel and air, and pushing it out on the exhaust stroke. The idea of minimising losses thru windage is to modify the airflows on the underside of the piston. The VG30 is 2998 CC over its bore/stroke, so moves 2998CC per 1 rpm, which equates to a shitload of air movement at full throttle. It's a pretty turbulent area in the sump, so high end engines will minimise this thru a dry sump arrangement, or windage screens to direct airflow and minimise oil vapours causing excessive drag on the motor. I've even heard of high end engines using baffles between the undersides of cylinders which will direct the 'push' of air from a descending piston into the 'suction' of a cylinder as it ascends the bore. Its a cool ancilliary item for a high power build, but probably doesn't relate to a lot of HP on its own.
Very good explanation, thanks man I'm not reinventing the wheel with my build but every little bit helps.
stock is 2960cc was going to get these but with the knife edged crank and built it crank scraper on the SZ sump I didn't . Should of .
