    Hi guys!
I have read much on your forums over the last few days as I bought a 1993 TT 2+2 last week. Already I am falling in love.. although this mistress seems to be demanding quite a bit of $$$ from me for the pleasure of continuing to drive her.
I am bracing myself to spend a few thousand on her though as she will be my new daily driver.
Your forums and your tech section have been a great help. Especially the write up by Blipman

I bought the car for $5500 and in condition that reflects the price; though I still feel like it should be worth far more.. Soon it will be I imagine as I begin to work through what is a growing list of problems/work I have found on it:
    -Pinion seal on Diff
    -Rear wheel bearing
    -New tyres (Yoko Sport v103s)
-New mufflers and tips (I don't like the drone or the big round 4" tips.)
    -Rear main oil leak
    -Turbo oil leak

Those last two points are worrying me price wise .. I haven't looked for a quote yet! I am hoping if I watch the oil level and keep it topped up then they won't be too much of a problem for a little while.
I need to get it passed Dickson motor registry check first.. ;)

Here you can see my mum liked it.. She wanted a drive when I took it home over the weekend haha.

Thanks, they were asking $7400. No rego though.
145 000 km. Receipt for Engine and Turbo rebuild in 2006 ($7700!?) but it doesn't have any real detail including the odometer reading at the time.

Just noticed a red one turned up this week. Thought it might be the same one.

Good to see a new user manage to find the tech section on their own for a change. I remember looking at photos of this car on carsales ages ago, can't remember seeing anything majorly wrong with it.

    Few pointers though:
    - Check for front end damage, only having the front bar replaced (as opposed to a whole bodykit fitted) can sometimes point to a front end repair done where an a/m bar was cheaper to source than oem.
    - It's not a 93', probably been complianced in australia in 1993. It's a series 1 so somewhere between 89-92.

    - You should be able to pick up a cheap used TT diff on here cheap as chips, cheaper than getting yours repaired anyway.
    - If you're getting the rear main seal replaced, it's an ideal time to also get the 'bastard hose' replaced and det sensor replaced (though that may have been done on the rebuild already)
    - Any idea where the turbo is leaking?

Thanks Ryzan ;-) I do know about forum etiquette re: Search first.. Unfortunately searching is never as easy for a newbie as it is for a veteran.
Ahh I did wonder about the year of it (1993 or not).. hmm I will have to do a bit more checking then.

Well I HAVE already paid the shop $245 to replace the pinion seal.. however they said they could only find the "oversized" version of the seal (which is the same as the one that was in there before - and it seems to be still leaking...). A new wheel bearing installed is in the vicinity of $400 installed it seems also as quoted from the same shop. How cheap do you expect a second hand TT diff to cost? I have replaced a diff on an HQ holden before; but I don't know IRS myself..
Rear main seal replacement - This will be last on my list for now (as it will be >>$1500 right?) as I continue to monitor the oil level and ensure it doesn't use too much; I certainly appreciate the tips on what else should be done at the same time though!
I only had a quick glance at the oil leak from the turbo today as it was on the hoist at the an exhaust shop for a quote, so no I don't really know.. it was the passenger side one though.
Thanks for taking an interest and helping me out Ryzan. :) I am feeling like I might end up investing a fair amount into this car.. I have never driven anything like it; It's hard for me not to imagine I am driving a 2010 super-car... ;)
Then again I have come from driving 1970's holdens... ;)

Coming from 1970's holdens? Zed's going to be a bit more complex then they are lol. Changing the diff isn't too hard if you're handy with a spanner. I'd expect to be able to pick one up for $100-$200 used depending on how many zeds are being wrecked around your area.

If you're confident enough to do the wheel bearing yourself you can source the parts from here. One of the best sites for sourcing cheap Zed parts.

I've heard of people having their rear main seal done for anywhere between $600-$1000 roughly (never paid to have one done myself though). Perfect opportunity to put in fresh gearbox oil and upgrade the clutch as well if you don't know what condition it's in.

Be warned, these cars do chew up money like it grows on trees. If you're not too good with a spanner now's the best time to learn, otherwise you will be paying a fortune in labour. Plenty of documentation for almost any job you can think of is available for these cars online. Welcome to the addiction :zlove:

Yes they are more complex certainly!

    Thanks for the link. :)

Ahh not as much money as I had thought for the rear main. Clutch won't trouble me.. since it's an Auto.. ;)

Thanks for the introductory speech ;) I am really enjoying the car. I do see it costing me a fair amount of money too; but as long as I enjoy it that's okay right??

edit: Oh and I managed to have a brief look today and it seems there is an oil leak from above the turbo (dripping onto the turbo) so it's not the turbo itself leaking.

    Thanks DoubleZX. :)
So far I think I have all the requirements covered except for exhaust and height.. I think I will pass height with the new tyres and a few extra PSI though. Exhaust noise I am considering paying a shop (quoted $700) to replace the mufflers and get two nice new tips.

Easy fix (well easier than replacing the turbo anyway). Will be leaking valve cover seals. Look up plenum pull in the tech section for the guide on how to do the seals as well as all the common bypasses if not already done.

She surprised me how much she liked it!
Side profile photos are a great way to hide what the paint looks like on top from the years of sun it must have received. ;-)

    Thats why they make cut-n-polish.
    Use a good quality one.
    Suggest Meguire's products - Scratch X 2.0
Followed by Meguires - Deep Crystal Wet Look.
Bit expensive, but works very well, and will last.

If you get stuck witht the exhaust let me know. I have a stockish 2+2 cat back exhaust here that will at least get you through rego. You could then swap it back and take your time. Anyway good luck, Dickson rego pits can be a pain in the you know what.
