my new zed has an A/M oil pressure gauge - Curious...

my old 300zx NA factory gauge worked quite well and changing from old thick oil to new 5w-30 synthetic actually dropped my oil pressure massively to the point where it was basically zero below 1000rpm (260 thou kms on engine)

my new 300zx TT factory gauge has been replaced with an aftermarket gauge and when the car is cold the oil pressure is really quite 'high' but once there is some heat in the oil, just like my NA, its basically zero... not quite, but its really close. (unknown kms on engine)

my TT has some clean looking oil in it, basically new, but I didn't put it in so I don't know the viscosity.

Also worth noting my passenger side turbo seals are GONE... basically fell out of the exhaust... knowing that the pressure sensor is on the passenger side feed line, maybe the line is depressurized thanks to all the escaping oils?

TLDR; whats your oil pressure at idle?

p.s: I have another turbo sitting here waiting to go in next week, Ive only driven the car for other diagnostics :br: to make sure I don't want to 'fix' anything else while its getting a turbo and a manual box...

Dump that oil you are using, it's too light.
If you are driving your vehicle where the ambient temperature is above -18 degrees Celcius use 10W-30.
If the ambient temperature is above 10 degrees Celcius, use 20W-40 or 20W-50.

At normal engine operating temperature the pressure at idle should be above 11psi.
At 3000 rpm, the oil pressure should be between 51 & 65 psi.

At operating temp its hovering around 10 PSI from memory - I'll double check next time I drive.

Im in Hobart. coldest temp this year was 1.1c - hottest was 34.4c - on average its between 6.4c and 15.1c

so yeah. 15w-40 synthetic be a good weight for climate?

Nope! too close to the sea :) none of that "middle of the mountain" madness :p

Lowest recorded temp in tassie was -13c up in the midlands.
