Hello everyone, I've been a lurker here for some time and figured it was about time I actually made an account, said hello and introduced myself and my zed. First off I wanted to say thank you to everyone who puts information up on this forum, this thing is probably more useful than the entire owner's manual.

Figure a bit of background on my motoring history and how I came to fall for these lovely cars is in order, plus a few photos.

I initially actually started off on the road on motorbikes, I've been riding since I turned 18 (and still do regularly), I didn't even actually own a car licence up until midway through last year, I just rode everywhere, rain or shine. Eventually however a car sort of became a necessity given how unpleasant it was to ride into work in 5 degrees and pouring rain at 5 30 every morning.

So I took a few lessons and then booked myself in for my Ps on the day before my bike licence went from green Ps to a full licence. Apparently time spent on a probationary bike licence also counts as time spent on a probationary car licence. I was on my car Ps literally for a day. So there I was, scarcely able to park, yet legally entitled to watch over an L plate driver... fantastic system we've got here in Victoria, eh?

My first car was a nissan EXA (for the few who haven't seen them, think a tiny 4 cylinder z31), I bought it just as things were heading into summer, so the targas were very much appreciated. So I spent a bit of time getting used to the whole bizarre concept of being incased in a big metal box on wheels.

A front-wheel drive, high-revving 4 cylinder really doesn't keep one sated for very long though when you're used to the acceleration of a 1000cc V twin though. So I wanted to stick with what I'd grown used to and started googling for nissans and targas to see what's out there. Low and behold this thing that looks like it belongs in the 6 digit price bracket pops up, I then find out they're actually in the 4 digit price bracket. Hooked at first sight, not even badly attached snowplow like bodykits can ruin a 300zx's first impression.

Long story short, 2 weeks later there was a lovely gun metal grey manual NA sitting in our driveway.

Had a few interesting adventures with it so far, the best was spending over half an hour with the woman incharge of vehicle inspections for registration attempting to find the engine numbers.

Haven't done anything to it mod-wise yet, came stock everything save for a pod filter. I have however done the seats in leather (front at least, rear is leatherlike vinyl). Presently in the throws of deciding whether to go down the NA modding path or sell it and buy a TT now that I'm used to the feel of these cars. An NA is fun and relatively quick compared to most mundane stuff on the road. But twin turbos... having a hell of a lot of trouble resisting.

Thank you :), as for the front bar, I'm not quite sure to be honest, I'm still learning the subtle differences in styling between the different models. Safe to say though that the bar appears to have been put on quite hastily, quite poorly painted in comparison to the rest of the car. I've got some pretty close matching gun metal paint though, so I'm thinking I'll take it off, strip the peeling paint and redo it.

    On the wagon...

Welcome to your new family. It won't take you long before you find yourself thoroughly engaged with the forum near daily. Apart from the tech, the non tech and the children playing in the back ground..... Cough.... Tom...... You will come to enjoy the shenanigans.

Your zed looks to be in good condition. It's a very nice and tidy unit. Good choice. Excellent colour too.

Anyways, enjoy the zed experience. It's well worth it.

Rule 1 though. Never talk ill or negatively about her. She tends to bite you in the ass when you least expect it ;) lol.

Also where did you get your seats trimmed? Looks nice :) im looking for a place to get mine trimmed...

    Goodluck,

I would not like to jump the gun by way of first impressions but I do enjoy a well structured morsel of literary prose. Your introduction is thoroughly adept in mannerism as it is in your descriptive verbatim of everyday road-biased propellative jargonism. Your sentence structure and eloquent stylings had me from the antipenultimate paragraph. You then affirmed my initial instinctive endorsement for a hearty welcome to the royal Zed lounge by way of allusion to the fact that you're a free spirited, adventure driven, open road puritan in the form of also being an avid motorcyclist!

I mean no disrespect and have no intent of stirring the ire of some of our more directly spoken word and versedly challenged brethren that abide within, but I am indeed besotted with the idea that we may have acquired a rare and cultured forum member who is aptly schooled in impeccable descriptive ability. How refreshing.

If'n dem seetz be orijinalz den oooh mah Gawd! If'n dey be re-didded, den givz us-a duh name of yer re-doer! PuhleeeeZe!?

Abraham, it is very easy to do the re-trim yourself, the covers are just held on by little metal clips, pretty much just bits of metal coat hangers in a circle :p, take them off, cover slides off, new one slides on.

Thank you :), I live out in berwick, fair bit of driving to get to Geelong, but I make the trip regularly given my best mate lives out that way. Would certainly be interested in attending a tech day, my mechanical knowledge is... err, an expanding work in progress (pretty familiar with bikes, but cars are an unknown animal to me outside of the basics.. for now) so something like that'd be right up my ally.

As for the seats, I bought a pre-manufactured leather upholstery set specifically made for the 300 off a manufactuer who sells through ebay and had a local guy I know of sew them on, I left him to do the backseats on his own accord and materials, used leather finish vinyl, can't really tell the difference...

I vouch strongly for the quality of the leather sets you can buy on ebay, pretty thick and tough stuff, would be very hard to damage, all up the whole thing cost me about 900ish, labour and materials included. The pre-assembled leather cuts are about 350ish.

The guy who fitted it all lives out in Berwick if you're curious, he's done excellent work for me in the past with my motorbike saddle too. He's also incredibly cheap for the quality of work. Works out of his own garage as an upholsterer. I've seen some pretty exotic and pricey stuff parked outside his place waiting to be done, so he has a very good reputation.

I can get you his contact details if you're interested.

God damn, Roadeater. Your command over the English language is as yet unparalleled by any who grace this forum with their presence. *Hat-tip*

'Anti-penultimate' was the only element of your literary tapestry that I thought was in any way, shape or form contrived. However, that may just be my own judgement.

One must appropriately appreciate such displays when they appear, for 'tis so rare that they do on the internets these days ;)

    Props. Mad props.

May as well post his details up, I'm sure there'll be more interest shown here-abouts.

Um and yeah, for 300ZXC, 'antipenultimate' basically means 'second', and yeah it is a word. Don't be fooled by my rant last night, I shouldn't drink and post because no-one here would ever do that  I'm actually at the pointy end of the field on the 'Dag' scale on this forum, hidden in my mum's basement(not actually, just figuratively).

But it was such a fun read! :p
I didn't mean it wasn't a word, I figured it meant the opposite of penultimate, what with 'anti' being in front of it ;) I was just commenting on the fact that it sounded a bit stilted, like it didn't quite fit

I would have never pegged you for a basement dweller though, metaphorical or otherwise

Better off Mum's basement than Josef Fritzl's! I'll just be down here with the other freaks and social lepers who post far better on forums than they can actually hold a conversation IRL.

Oh and Slithz, how about some more awesome interior shots so we can work out the haps with whats going on with your steering wheel?

I think it felt odd because unlike the other big words its meaning was exactly the same as its common synonym, whereas the other words all have a particular, unique meaning or inflection which doesn't quite align with that of the degenerate alternatives.

Oh, and welcome slithz, thats a fine looking automobile. I would definitely recommend getting twin turbo's, how you go about it is a decision you'll have to make, if you want a TT Z for the long term and want it to be worked you may want to get an engine to build up over time then do a conversion rather than piece by piece on something thats already in a car.

    The upholsterer's location/number:

@Roadeater, that would be my err, somewhat improvised iphone mount (for GPS purposes),I butchered an old cover and attached it with cable ties. Also a pretty cheap method of handsfree with the speakerphone function turned on.

    @Fists

I think the way I'm going to go at this rate I'll end up restoring my present Z a little further, needs a few things done, i.e need to put the new shockers in, got a set of conceptz headers (which I'm going to have modified due to the RHD issue), going to chuck those in afterwards and then probably sell it on and buy a slightly later model TT... which brings me to a question actually. Just how reliable as a daily driver is a TT run at around stock boost?
