I have been left with an '89 300ZX Fairlady 2+2 that was imported into Brisbane on march'06 and has not yet received a compliance plate. What I really want to ask is, is this car legally allowed to just sit in the garage or is there a deadline to when it must get done? Can I sell the car as is and leave the compliance plate to the new buyer? Can anyone recommend where I should get a compliance done on the southside of Brisbane, what sort of cost will I be looking at and what needs to be done to transport an unregistered car to them? Many thanks for you help and suggestions.

    What type of import approval?

Who and what level compliance that must be obtained depends on what type of import approval was given.

    Start here:Link

    Then google SEVS and RAWS

Thank you for your quick response. I have an import approval issued under regulation 17 - Motor vehicle built before Jan 1989.

I don't think that car needs a compliance plate as under the 15 year old rule can be registered as long as it has import approval and a few minor changes such as 3 point rear seat belts and maybe side impact bars in the doors.

The 15 rule no longer exists to shut out large volume grey imports but the vehicles that already came in under it are exempt from the new rules.
