my #6 pot stopped firing today. I've had a slight misfire for a while now, everything has been changed apart from the injectors.

Is it a plenum off job to change #6 injector?

    /me crosses fingers :)

    Upgrade time? :D

    Technically you can...

Need to massage the plenum with a dremel till you clear the screw.

I would plenum off tho...it's tight back there, and your a big boy Rich

    Shit ...

it wasn't that long ago that Dwight cleaned/checked the injectors. I gave my last spare injector to Fate, but I think Pexy has a few lying around.

I can see if Dwight will re-check any you locate (should be at no cost to you).

    Let me know.

PS: I'd pull the plenum. 30 mins max.

Like most multiple items on the zed, if one is dead, others may not be far off dying also :(

Check the #6 pins are clean and female ones are properly located in the connector - we had this problem on Benny's Zed where the females were pushed up and not making proper contact.

Gotta check any that have been on a shelf

exposed to air for extended periods.

I Ohm test looking for 10-12 Ohm resistance and put 12V across the terminals and check for clean 'clicking', this is rough way of checking but at least will eliminate installing dead units.

I would always recommend getting them professionally cleaned, flow and pressure tested.

Having said this, this will be the 2nd injector I have seen die despite being properly serviced by Dwight within 12 months.

PS: Just to clarify, Dwight has successfully serviced hundreds of injectors for me over the years with (up till now) a 100% serviceability rate. I guess with the age of most being ~20 years and being a solenoid with moving parts, all you can confirm is the unit checks out at the time...

I can forsee new injectors being part of future plenum pull projects. Next will be fuel pumps, coilpacks etc

hey thanks guys for your help. I found that the injector had 12 ohms, but when slightly moving the plug it started a misfire. I'll take back the insulator on the cable as it's always had this fault, even after changing the injector plugs..

Thanks again for your help :)

Yes, the fuel rail is touching the injector plug stopping it seating properly. I'll have a look into this..

    finally

Finally good to hear you've located that one little nitty gritty thing that has been urking you R33k...

Wont take you long to get plenum off change it over and go from there.

If you want to upgrade injectors ;) D3coy has some 555cc's for sale as well.

Mine is all in and running like a dream now. Thanks to Mark for that injector!

Hopefully you'll have this zed perfect in no time mate. Good job!

I have used Electronic Injector Service twice to check, clean and refit the injectors into the rail. On both occasions within 2 days there were fuel leaks from the injectors. Onw was a cut lower o'ring leaking fuel into the cylinder, the other on our own zed, was a cut upper o'ring leaking externally. Both times I repaired the issue myself.

I have also watched EIS record the results of the test, and I find it laughable seeing these as they are just random numbers plucked from his head at the end of the job.

I am trained in servicing, repairing, calibrating diesel injectors and know the process on how to check, clean, calibrate and install injectors correctly. Something I have yet to see from EIS. I have fitted hundreds if not thousands of injectors, both petrol and diesel over the years and have never once cut an o'ring.

Because of this I have now set up to do the injectors myself, if I need to warranty the repair, I need to be sure of success.

I guess what I am saying is just because they have been tested means zero imho, the test results are useless.

Well we have different views I guess

Was it Dwight who did those injectors for you?

I am pretty sure it was, I asked for him on both occasions.

On a few occasions last year,

I had Dwight's colleagues fill in for him and there was a huge difference in the service so hopefully this is what happened to you.

But with Dwight, I just hand him the injector rail with injectors still fitted and 40-45mins later he hands it back with injectors pressure, flow and Ohm tested, terminals cleaned up and re-fitted into the rails with new upper/lower O'rings installed. He doesn't charge for the O rings which is a pretty good saving from buying them from Coz/Caz etc.

If you've had problems, I'd encourage you to let him know.

How much do you charge for injector servicing BTW? It would be good to have a choice of suppliers to send people to.

I do not offer injector servicing as a stand alone job, ie; if you bring your injectors in, I will not do them, but I will do it as part of a larger job like a plenum pull, 100k, rebuild etc. The price to do them then is $170.

Well I'll revisit this thread. On the cruise last weekend, #6 started misfiring again...

Pushed it back on seemed to fix it and when I bailed early due to self inflicted "hangoveritis" ... It started missing again, so I limped home. :(

Re-soldered connections on the plug , and found the switching wire from the injector plug to the ECU was 12k ohms to earth. All the others were Meg ohms...

So I dug out an old ECU... worked perfectly...

Is it an easy fix to repair ECU's that won't run one injector? Is it a thyristor/transistor that could be blown?

I haven't searched yet so forgive me...

Any idea what kills them anybody?

I searched long and hard for a injector transistor thingie to suit a Ford explorer ecu a few months ago, did not come up with any conclusive findings.

If brisz see's this post, he will find it if it's out there.

Ps. explorer ecu was killed by degreasing the engine bay, ecu is resessed into the firewall. The owner thought his engine looked dirty so gave it a bath.

There will be an electronic switch such as a FET or gate that you might find buy tracing the ECU circit board back from the injector 6 connection point. You might also spot a burnt looking chip in that location or a dry solder joint, that you can replace or fix.
