Its a long story but wiill cut it short to ask a question, now I am being told that the initial tests for carbon monox in the coolant were negative, now after three tests, cold warm and hot it is coming up as positive for gases, not losing coolant anymore as hose that was cracked under plenum and leaking welch plug has been fixed, but air is getting into the system. I am now told it is likely to be a head gasket need replacing and that pressure testing the cylinders will not necessarily show up such a small leak as a drop in pressure will occur overnight anyway, around valves and rings....
I have instructed them to also check the turbos again.
Is it possible that the turbos would introduce exhaust gasses into the cooling system ? anyone?
They have agreed to only charge me the labour from the plenum off, radiator out etc, not much more needed in time to remove heads. They are outsourcing the heads work and will have them tested shaved and new valve guides if needed etc, it going to be an extra $1,200 before I get it back again and they wil guarantee the problem fixed, bloody weell should do for the kinda dollaros I have spent on this mother @@##%# of a problem.
They also have talked about a head gasket that will need tightening down after a thousand k's which is heaps more labour later, if a stock standard gasket is used, will it need to be tightened again ?
If anyone has had a gasket job done, reults and problems etc would be gratefully recieved.
    Cheers all
hopefully will be Zedding again in a couple of weeks ....:zlove:

    My experiences.....

My head gasket started leaking during the mid of last year. I had it replaced it, and all was good in the world.......for a while anyway. At the start of this I noticed to my horror that their was a small amount of oil leaking from between the head and block. I showed my mechanics this and they agreed to fix it free of charge. Analysis showed that the new head gasket was indeed faulty. As for a stock gasket needing tightening 1000k's after, I dont think so. I hope it all works out for you....

    Cheers

By "tightening the head gasket", I assume >>>

you mean re-torquing the head bolts? Never done a head gasket job on the Z, but had 2 different Fiats which both blew head gaskets, and in both cases, by different mechanics, a retorquing of the head bolts was advised and done as a free-of-charge follow up, built into the cost of the repair. Then again, the head on a Fiat twin-can is easily accessible.
