I would start with another opinion...

then maybe a trip to Melbourne and a specialist 300ZX garage over here.

Safety boost might be an issue but the overheating and water loss need to be taken care of first. Wires are not a big deal unless they start to "short" like someone else on here however, plenty of places you can get replacement looms from or even take it to an Auto Elec. and have them fix whatever wires need replacing. Even at premium rate this is not going to cost anywhere near as much as a complete engine replacement or engine swap!

How many Ks has the car done and what sort of maintenance have you followed with it? Has the major services been done? Have regular oil and filter changes been done? Is the car modified in any way and if so, what sort of mods?.........lots of unknowns here!:) :)

    I would suggest

another mechanic as he seems lazy and not very educated on zeds.

    Cheers

    Sorry Baz.......

Seems like I'm being taken out of context. Apparently some people don't believe I am who I say I am and think I am some rejuvenated past member who has come back and is sprouting all kinds of shite.:(

Maybe you should tell them how I came to be on this forum Baz?

Stick with the VG engine which in my opinion is better than the RB. If you have to have an engine change and want to spend your $$$ then go with the LS1 V8.

more of a question than a suggestion, but has anyone done a Triple Rotor engine swap into a Zed?

Insainly small engines (end light) with awsome "bang for buck" if you know how to look after them.

Not sure how they'd perform in the Zeds shell, being heavier than RX7/8 though.

But with one of them in place you could still smuggle a small country in the space in the engine bay ;)

Personally I'd stick with the VG though.

u game rotars are best applied in lighter weight cars, that said... probably is one in a zed... love rotars just hate the sound of the old ones.

mate as everyone has said, get a new mechanic... Sim is in tas isnt he? shoot him a PM n ask him what mech he uses... might be able to help you out.

seriously tho, a engine is shot because its overheating, some belts/wires worn/corroding?! thats insane, unless shes poped a head gasket.

really thought, check it out yourself, not putting out much power could be safety boost. take it to another mechanic, that one just sounds lazy and uneducated as previously stated.

Even if its popped a head gasket.... wouldn't it be worth fixing (around 4-5k ive heard) andm maybe re-con the heads with it, rather than swapping for another 2nd hander?

Thats what I did with my CA18DET. Ok so it only cost me 2.5K, but I could have "fixed" it for less than half that but it would have been another OLD head, that could go again at any time.

I'd personally rather fix/recon if you've got the cash, rather than swapping for another 17 year old motor.
