    well firstly, hi.

I've done some thinking, and im probably going to purchase my first zed soon once i sell my bmw. i WAS going for another bm, but i always loved zed's.

    First question:
if i purchased a stock TT zed, with roughly ..150,xxx on the clock, GIVE OR TAKE. Would it be a reliable daily, im not one to THRASH my cars constantly, sure at the right time ill put my foot down on a nice LONG streight but most of the time, ifnot ALWAYS, im respectful to my cars.

Would a tt zed be suited as a daily IF its cared for and serviced regularly ?

my job requires me to be on the move probably 2/3 times a day, as i do some onsite work for clients.

or am i best to get a n/a zed for a daily as their would be less to break down ?

secondly.. i hear ALOT of negative feedback about zed's from the general public but most of those people dont even OWN zed's.. so i want someone who OWNS and KNOWS about zed's to give me the insight.. are they reliable..whats with everyone saying they are EXPENSIVE to fix..and HARD to maintain ?

If people with silly remarks or stupid comments could please keep it to yourself, as im after proper explanations!

Im keen on this zed currently for sale, ive spoken to the owner about it etc, she sais that the zed is reliable and has been maintained very well.

i feel she is a genuine person and has looked after it, it looks STUNNING!

though its an 89 model so i have my doubts

it depends on the condition. if it has had a hard life then a tt will most likely need some work. if you find one with lower ks and you know has been looked after then your chances of it being reliable are better.

remember you get what you pay for. if you buy a twin turbo 300zx for 5k, good luck it being in good condition, even though these cars are pretty cheap atm.

but if well looked after and maintained, the tt 300zx will be just as reliable as the next sports car you buy.

and yes, it is suitable as a daily driver :)

Quick response to one of your questions:

Zs are expensive to fix because the parts are expensive and the engine bay is so packed that it takes forever to just reach something that can easily fixed on more 'spacious' cars. On that basis alone, this means you have both expensive parts and time cosuming labor which equates to being quite expensive.

If you check out the forums here, there are lots of people who try to DIY as much as possible to save on labor cost. Parts can be cheaper when there are group buys and from fellow forum members (mostly), so some savings there. Hope that answers part of your question.

If you service and maintain your cooling system. Ie check leaky hoses. You will be fine. It's just bad mouthing from uncaring owners which spreads.

yes, thats EXACTLY what i assumed.

I guess most people do it without realising. its like asking me about GTR's.. i HAVE no idea so i wouldnt advise them to people.

So i assume it would be a GOOD advantage to reduce heating etc.. if there were bonnet vents, BIGGER radiator and well maintained hoses and coolent etc ?

    Cengiz,

The 300ZX is a very complex car and usually requires a specialist who will charge a little more than the standard mechanic to work on it...

However, that said I wouldnt purchase a car based on the KM which are on the ODO, reason being being an import car I can tell you that in 99% of the cars bought over, that the KM are lowered before it is complied..

So a car that shows only 75,000km, could have actually done 150,000km, and a car that shows 130,000km could have actually done THOSE REAL KM, vise-versa...

So purchase the car not based on the KM, but based on the condition of the car itself, things mainly to look for are 100,000km service, oil/filter changes EVERY 5,000km and any previous damage (uneven panels/tyre wear etc.)

One more thing, I wouldnt reccommend the blue 300ZX which you posted in your link as a daily, remember, these are VERY low cars, and with that kit, you will be kissing the pavment alot  But maybe you wont, who know...

I drive a 1995 300ZX Twin-Turbo Manual AS A DAILY and it has not given me any major problems, although petrol can be a problem as it loves a good drink . I get it serviced every 5,000km and did the 100,000km service, because the previous owner diddnt do it properly, so unless you are ABSOLUTULY CERTAIN that the 100,000km service is done, DO IT STRAIT AWAY AT A REPUTABLE Z MECHANIC WITH ALL THE CORRECT PARTS (kit from CAZRACING)...

    Good luck mate,
    Adam.

    thanks adam,

the owner did tell me that the KIT was REALLY low on that blue zx, but i just LOVE it :)

she seemed genuine and said that she wouldnt sell the car without giving it one more FINAL service, changing ALLL hoses etc, she did mention the 100,000km service was completed.

even if its not that blue zed, im still getting one after the bmw.

Cengiz, welcome to the forums. A well maintained TT Z will NOT let you down! The owner of that car is a forum member HALYZ so your in safe hands.

Thanks man, it really does show how different zed owners are to other cars and car forums.

but over the past hour my perception of zed's has changed dromatically.. INSANELY infact.

i guess they are like ANY OLD car.. just a little more fragile.

Yes HaylZ has put a LOT of time and money into that Zed, and has loved it to bits. IMO it's one of the best looking in Aus.
She is also a very honest and trusting person, we are all big fans of her on here and i'm sure she will sell you a car that is in good condition. Especially if it's to another forum member.
Good luck and hopefully this beaut Zed will stay within our aus300zx community. :zlove:

    Cheers,
    Benny.

even just a replacement of hoses, get the factory radiator rodded and flush the system would be very helpful. 18 y.o radiators get really clogged.

Look at it this way. Like anything this old, there are two paths you can choose from when buying a 300zx.

    - Stock or mostly stock
    - Modified

When I bought my Zed earlier in the year, I chose the former. There are pros and cons to either side.

    Stock
Stock is great because its easier to see what has or hasn't been 'done'. For example, if its had a hard life its harder to mask that when most of the parts are genuine... but there fierce downside to that is that a lot of parts are going to be up for replacement or over-due.

    Modified
Modified is great because there is a great chance that its been well looked after by an enthusiast. Its easier to see the type of owner the car has had by the type of mods applied to it. This can also show how its been driven and where money has been spent.

All of this said, in my opinion the 300zx is quite reliable and there are many members on the forum that continue to have great service. My car has given me trouble but ONLY because of its age and the original expendable parts. Hoses, gaskets, bushes. Simple stuff, really, but expensive when labour is concerned sometimes.

Any problem you will ever have has already been experienced and there is a tech doc for it, somewhere. Its actually quite an amazing international community in that respect.

Definately, if i purchased it yes. i wouldnt dare straying from thsi forum or other educated members, you guy's would be my first resort when it comes to mechanics or upgrades teheheh :)

    thanks for the info fella's.

Just another question i came accross wile day dreaming before in the coffee room, How many km/s will a zed do to a full tank, and how BIG is a full tank.
my guess is ..maybe just under 400kms to a tank, and a tank being..between 60-80 litres

a PROPERLY tuned Z should get a minimum of 450. If its running rich expect 250 or less.

A lot of us running TT's in good condition can get 600km's before the fuel light comes on.
Fuel tank is 70L i believe.

wow shit, thats ****ing..AMASING! (mind the language),
My bmw is a 1.8L 4spd auto, i take the freeway EACH morning, its a 91 model..

and i get around 450 to a full 65L tank.

Geez, if my next 300 gets ATLEAST 500 to a tank, ill be rapped.

thats alot more than i expected benny_c. thanks for the info guys.

btw, Benny_c, just want to comment on your signiture.. absolute sexiest machine ive seen, nice job on the paint and choice of rims :)
