Ive cleaned the afm connector enough. I meant the afm itself may have been damaged as my zed had a fight with a hilux's reinforced towbar.

I have searched the forum for threads that mention my symptoms and this thread comes top of my list for relevance, hence my purchasing plugs. Im a zed noob but not so much on this forum that i post before i search.

Afm error causing such a drastic reaction from my motor doesnt make sense to me. I know it will cause it to run rich and be on safety boost, but not sure it would cause such a rough idle. Im no mechanic, but atm a dead plug fits and is my easiest and first option to try.

How about a vaccum leak causing it to run rich. Might be worth a boost leak test.

so i did my first ever ecu code read :D

unscrewed the wood board, unscrewed the ecu bracket the 3 nuts and pulled it up to see, had the key "on", rotated the pot full clockwise, waited a few secs then turned it the other way.

red light came on and i got - 1 long, 2 short, 1 long, 3 short.

so that means codes 12 (afm) and 13 (coolant temp sensor)? i'll go have a fiddle of the afm connector and see how i go.

thanks to how rich its running, good thing i grabbed the plugs. they're probably ruined anyway.

So i changed the plugs. They were denso pk20r11s totally black all over the spark bits. Switched them with el cheapo ngk bkr6e-11 plugs. While taking the balance tube off, noticed a few hoses are past their use-by date.

Got mum's manicure set to file and clean the green rust off the coolant temp sensor connector. Opened the nose panel and realised i was missing a filter so i got a pod filter too.

Started him up and he's good as gold :D
