Well thats how it ends up, plenum off and timing belt etc.originally, the motor had to come out to get to all the hoses and replace the rear main seal and a welch plug that was leaking oil, the oil sump seal was leaking too so that has to be re sealed ...
The Nissan w/shop has spent 30+ hours on it already and the parts are up around the $800 mark....ouch... must admit I told them to remove the motor after they had done all but that, and I ordered the injectors to be cleaned and flow tested with new fittings too.
They rang today as I asked them if I was going to need a defibrolator (I think thats how its spelt, used for reviving heart attack victims) I would rather have the news at home...they were originally only quoting the book time for plenum removal, but then the engine removal put it into the hypersonic dollar and hours @$85 were running, much like a bloody taxi... they told me this is where they're at so far and the engine had to go back in, oil, coolant, oil filter etc ++++ $$$$... whooaaa...
We agreed to stop the meter there and then and call it a $3500 job handing me the car fully fixed with a 12 month 20 thou warranty. they are missing out on a lot of hours (apparently) but as its an import lade da de dah... there is no book hours on it to charge... mmm.
Anyway, wioll get it back next week, they are waiting on a couple of gaskets....
That makes a total of around 8 thousand this year, boy its gotta be love eh ?
    Happy Zedding....

    Hours Charged

You have to wonder whether what is on the books is right , for instance my mate who works at nissan said that in their so called books they should be charging 8.5 hrs work for a timing belt change although my other mate has said he can do it in 4.5 to 5 hrs. Anyway i hope everything goes right for you know Dwarf.:YD

you've gotta start learning to do the work

on the car yourself. I refuse to pay the extorsion mechanics charge for hanging off the end of a spanner. They have the ego and attitude of a surgeon and find it impossible to admit to mistakes. Nissan (or any car manufacturer dealer) would be the last place I would take my car to.

Especially if your not aus delivered, nissan

    are the biggest arse with parts so i hate to imagine if they were repairing an import. You could tell them the exact differences between a aus delivered and a tt and they would still insist they dont stock parts for your car 8-}

    Nissan ?

The first two years i had my 300 i took it to Nissan. The charged me $1800 to fix my oil leaks. Pulled the engine out and couldn't get it back in, took them 3 weeks and not 3 days. And after they finished the car leaked just as much. Seems the leak was in the power steering after all. I complained they said they did nothing wrong but cost me another $1800 for a different mechanic to get new power steering fitted and fix damange done by Nissan mechanics. They had forgotten to bolt the radiator in and had leaked oil on bushes and rubber hosing which now needed replacing.
Have never gone back to nissan since.

    A plug for NISSAN ?

Not the way it sounds! ....As you know, Richo got an Aus-spec NA a couple of weeks ago. While cleaning the engine bay we found two plugs disconnected!Bear in mind this car was delivered & serviced by ONE Brisbane Dealership since new, never tampered with by others. One plug was easily fixed - brake master cylinder low warning - Must've been left out since BMC re-sleeve, some years ago!The second, the LH vvt solenoid connector was a bit more difficult to fix .... it being wedged firmly under the LH middle of plenum! 8-} How long the LH vvt had been not operable is anyone's guess, but I know some work was done by Nissan on coolant hoses around 50,000k's ago, so assume under plenum ones done at that time. After 3hrs disassembly and partial plenum lift, we retrieved the plug, reconnected & went for a test drive .... oh what a feeling ...POWER! :):):)

    I concur absolutely

Buy a good set of spanners, go to techdays and have lots of patience You'll learn the business and save untold dollars. ( and a few skinned knuckles won't hurt too much ).

you still have skin on your knuckles :)

I only have scar tissue from the numerous times I've collected them on the bench grinder from polishing.
