Firstly :sorry: if this question is noob but i thought id kill 2 birds with one stone. First issue ----> When starting my car in the morning i back up my drive way and when i stop and let it idle i can hear something squeaking but its like somethings spinning if you catch my drift. When i bought the Zed i had all the fan belts etc replaced because it used to have a horrid screech when i started it but its different to that. Thats the only way i know how to explain it but i really hate it and its kinda embarrassing but it goes away after the car has warmed up which i find odd. And will usually only happen in the mornings. happens most of the time now and is only recent. Second issue -----> is that when i put my car into reverse (its a manual) the reverse lights arnt coming on anymore? Thats weird... i dont understand? Hopefully someone can help. and i did use the search to see what i could find but it turned up posts that had everything and everything NOT to do with what im looking for i guess. Thanks in advance for your help, Dave.
Might be time to replace the idler pulley on the a/c. That is possibly the sqeak. Reverse lights, have you checked the bulbs, may be blown. Sendor wiring may not be connected or broken at gearbox. Sendor itself may be not working.
Should it happen when the a/c isnt even running? umm it just seems odd that all of the reverse light bulbs would blow in one go?
its not a loud squeak but it sounds like something rotating maybe its more of a high pitch humming? its a hard sound to describe.
Yes. The Idler pulley and belt are turning constantly when the engine is running(as is the A/C drive pulley, it's only the compressor that isn't turning until the magnetic clutch engages).
Before doing that, I would simply check all belts are tight. If one is slightly loose, it will squeal on initial start up Next time you start the car, pop the hood... See if you can locate the location of the noise.
Remove belts one at a time to see if the noise disapears and narrow it down. eg Without A/C belt - possibly a/c idler pulley or compressor bearing Without Fan belt - possibly water pump/alternator etc Cheap and quick troubleshooting to start with
Hey Zeb, Not really seems to be constant.. umm often goes away when reving... seems to just be at idle...
