translation We're going for a speed record, lets use something that's not the best  I own both.... the 2+2 is for crusin, its nice and comfy and boringly predictable when its time to get the slipper into the mat the 2+0 is for the driver who wants sharp and precise handling with a super dose of the adrenaline rush thrown in for free
Having owned a 2+2 in the past & a slicktop now, I prefer the feel of the slicktop, it is much more nimble & I can feel the difference in weight. Also I never used the targa tops (though black glass roof looks cool). However the midget seats in the 2+2 came in handy more times than I could count & if I had to do it again I would have to go for a 2+2 just because of that.
with regards to the Bonneville speed record. its in the usa so...... the following things are probly what made them choose a 2 seater chassis. its in the us, the usdm TT was 2 seater only (I believe) the 2 seater is lighter which would be beneficial if your going for outright top speed.

Steering response of the 2+0 makes it feel more sports car, also looks more sporty than 2+2. I own both and changed the wheels & tyres to test handling. You just have to love the turn-in of the 2+0. Much more fun to drive, especially on a dirt road. Another thing I noticed is the 2+0 has better ground clearance as the petrol tank sits higher & if NA no IC adds clearance.
I think they both look pretty good to be honest! I like the 2+2 more just because my first zed was one, and I like having the extra seats. Handling wise since both mine were NA auto (one 2+2 and 2+0) I probably enjoyed the 2+0 more just because the handling was a bit more exciting, and thats all the fun that the car really had (no power or manual gearbox hah). Looks-wise I also the think the longer design of the 2+2 when lowered looks awesome, and I think the ass just looks better in general!
Having read all the comments you'll realise that it's up to you. Choose which you prefer, which best fits your lifestyle needs and which one happens to appeal to you.

Chili I do agree the 2+2 would be the more comfortable, easier to drive option. Perfect for the older enthusiasts on this forum
First of all the JUN Bonneville 300ZX is a right hand drive car that was built in Japan ! Could it be that if you were to contemplate skidding down a salt lake at 200MPH+ on your roof that a slicktop would be the chassis of choice ? And it will be 1 Mph faster then a 2+2 T-top.
At those speeds the weight difference between lightest and heaviest Z32 would account for about 1 MPH difference.
Yep I thought someone might be interested in this visual comparison. I can't vouch for the accuracy, but my eye spots a difference of approx 7" in wheelbase and approx 8.5" in overall length because the 2+2 bumper sticks out lots more.
