    Hey guys,

well last night driving along the coast all of a sudden my car begins to sound like a tractor, its just so loud and it rumbles, but not a nice rumble a very embarrasing rumble what could it be? im assuming its the exhaust but i cant see a hole anywhere?

    any ideas ?

    greatly appreciated
    cheers,
    tony

Check where the catback bolts onto the front half of the system
I just drove mine to the exhaust fitter without a catback, however mine sounded like a dragcar (not a pleasant experience for the eardrums at all)

you might have dropped a cylinder due to

faulty spark or something, has the cars power changed at all or does it feel the same as always....
most exhaust leaks are a gradual build up,not happening all of a sudden

Take it to an Exhaust shop.

They will find the leak in 20 seconds. I had a leak in one of the joint welds hard to see as it was directly under the body work at the top of the pipe.
Did not take the shop long to find it. They rewelded it.
$50 later good as new! :)

hey guys thanks for the feedback, much appreciated
Jinxed: it has lost power thats for sure but the spark plugs were recently changed about 5months ago could it be that or something else..
also..afew days ago my front right indicator stopped working (i knew this because wheni put it on it goes much quicker) but then all of a sudden it started working again, could it be faulty electronics somewhere?

my moneys on a faulty coilpack connector

    or something similar to that......
the note of the engine/exhaust will change dramatically when you go down to 5, and the engine will run rough and low on power....
try letting the car idle and get and the bonnet and press on each coilpack connector (and injector connector) plug seperately and see if the engine note changes...if it does, theres part of your problem!
also run datascan or a similar program would be worth doing to check for error codes at this point....

oh boy when u say 5 u mean it could be runing on 5cylinders?

um im a big time newbie so when u say run a datascan to check for error codes, is there a thread anywhere that explains it?

thanks again for all ur help

Hey mate I had the same trouble as you as mentioned above could be the trasistor pack which is causing one of the 6 cylindesr to shut down (mines was number 4) It was fixed when the pins that connect to the wiring loom plugs were cleaned with a metal eating soloution to make the clean as new and if it still presists do what I did and get all the connector sockets replaced.

Also ther tractor noise is as mentiont above, exhaust leak mine was at the join of the dump pipes to the turbo, I just had to tighten up a nut and that was all.

my money's on a cylinder not firing, is the engine shaking/lumpy?

yeah running on 5 cylinders is what i mean

pretty common when the electrical connectors get old they get brittle and break, and then they dont connect properly easily fixed with new connectors.....remeber the car is close to 20 years old so things will be at the end of theie usable lifespan(all the rubbers, connectors etc etc) if they havent been replaced already

datasan is a program which reads electrically what your car is doing and reports back to you,so you can problem shoot that way, a zedder in your local area will most likely have this program or another similar to it,theres a few variations....

last week i lost one of my coilpacks witch cuased it to run on 5...BUT..i dout this is ur problem as my car did not sound like a tractor or anything it was just really raddley and jumpy when u put ur foot on the throttle and really bad when i went up hills....so i wouldnt say this is ur problem unless u hav those simptons?

actualy i did notice a leak underneath the car (towards the engine side) but not a significant leak to actually drip on the ground..okay with all the above mentioned suggestions i will take it to a mechanic and let him know this scenario

thanks again guys, prior to this the car has been running great!

mmm no not really jumpy, rattly yes definetly, it has lost some power too not an excessive amount but a noticable difference...how much did it cost to fix the coipack?

okay one more thing...on the dash the oil pressure thing is ALWAYS on 0 its never moved i bought the car 2months ago and it has never moved
    so..
i just figured it was a just a faulty oil pressure meter but could this be the source of my problems? if so then i think my car might be totally f*cked
