Hi, i have just purchest a 1983 300zx turbo, its an inport into Australia from Japan , could some one tell me what the black think is at the top of the bonet in the center between the water jets , it has wirers coming from under neath it and going in to the main wiring loom in the engin bay , thank welshbrian
photos will help.... is it attached to the hood or is it in the engine bay.... what motor does the car have?
That does sound like the water sensor that some imports have but yes photos would definately help to make sure... 1983 though? Are you sure you have the correct year? I believe yours would be an '84 as that's the earliest date for a Z31.

I believe there were 70 odd thousand z31's produced in Japan in 83 before they went on sale in the US in 84. Somebody affluent in Japanese may be able to confirm More info Here
I believe all it does is turns on the wipers when it rains, a mickey mouse feature really. The models released here didn't have it... I've seen that chart before, I too was aware of some 1983 "build" dates but with 1984 "release" dates. I still believe it's technically an '84, but anyway. Got any pics of the car? I'd be interested to see it...
Nice! I can confirm for you now that is infact the rain sensor... Does it still work? A friend of mine has an import with it aswell, and it still works after all these years. I just confirmed with him that it doesn't physically turn them on with rain, it just increases the wiper speed with the amount of rain. Still pretty darn cool for the 80's though! Going by those photos I can tell you a few things about your Z. You have the NA rear end, outside of Japan the 300zxt came with a carbon look-a-like center tail light piece that read "300ZX Turbo" instead of "300ZX" as your says. Also I dont believe you have the watercooled T3 due to the presence of that hood scoop. You also have one of the very few cars I've seen to have that badge on the rear that says "V6 Turbo" which is pretty cool. Imports always vary in little ways when compared to the local version. I have yet to see two imports that have been identical! Anyway nice ride!

nice car,looks really good particurly when you consider its over 20 years old.....very nice indeed.... come cruising with us next month and show it off to all the guys and gals,would be good to meet new faces as well.... see coming events for details:biggrin:
