they are 18x8.5", are there ANY cheap tyres in 18inch? What would I expect to pay for 255/35ZR18 and 225/40ZR18 tyres??? Will be ringing around tomorrow for prices but need to make a decision on the wheels tonight... any help appreciated.
    Cheers

    $175

Best i could find was $175 for each "Federal 595". 235/35/ZR18

They did a good job and had a marked improvement over 17" SP3000s and were in a whole other league to the 15" rim & tyre setup i had. This was on a Ford mind you...

The guy was friendly and did me some good deals on most of his stock.

    Unfortunately this is in Vic...

Everything else is at least $200 per, and well over

    18's

    Hey there,

last set of 18's i brought brand new was a set of Firestone TZ 100's.. semi directional... the best value, perfromance, quiet sounding, smoothem grippy tyre on the market in my opinion... they are very practical too you can hang it out and still get decent life out of them... very good dragging tyre i found too.. cos i dragged similar cars with same power but i got the power down better... could have been these tyres.. Best place to get them would be the Local Bridgestone Tyre Centre (go the biggest 1 in the city as they will work on high volumes and pass them on cheaper).. i paid 240 per tyre about 7 months ago... im not sure on current prices but in a 17" these were 160 bucks last week so the 18's would be the 200+ mark but nuthing rediuculas...

    Cheers... thats my opinion...

well that's not too bad... I can just put some cheapies on the 18's

and put some decent rubber on the stocko's for racing.

    tyres

the size was 235/245s 40 series zr 18's... good for 250+ kms.. (not that my old car could do that)..

    good tyes...

stay away from dunlop (not value) faulkin (too soft) federal (too hard) simex (just crap) Maxis ( too cheap) and NANG KANG (too too cheap)... however NANG KANG are the cheapest acceptable 18's about 170 each... thy are grippy but will chew out in 6 months if u hang it out...

i like the firestone... as good as the Bridgies!

    NEXEN 3000 Tyres.

    Hi Kyne,
NEXEN 3000's are an excellent value tyre. They have great traction, wet or dry, are very quiet, they also handle beautifully. At around $200 ea (fitted & balanced), for a 235/40/18 (fronts), and $240 (fitted & balanced), for 265/35/18 (rears), you won't find much better. (They can be found slightly cheaper if you shop around.) I have them on my car, and I know several other members have tried them recently. Haven't heard any negative feedback from anyone. They are a Korean tyre, made using Michelin technology, and are Silica-based.
I'll continue to use them as long as they remain as good as the current set.:thumbsup:

    BETTER OPTION

    235/40R18
    there's a tyre called a pneumant p950 tritec.

it's made by goodyear, it's EXACTLY the same compound as the goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3.
(european tyre of the year, and wheels magazine tyre of the year)

    and a dirt load cheaper!!!
    eagle F1's $ 438
    tritec $ 210

it's a little more pricey than a tz100, or a nankang or anything like that.
    BUT it's worth it.

ps, i have a set for sale.

I've just put a set of Perelli P-Zeros on my 18inch wheels. You pay a fair bit for them but they are amazing, cornering grip are ridiculously good in wet and dry conditions. about $360 each but well worth it.

my experience with P-Zeros is that are good for about 2000Km and

then they turn to shit and are slippery buggers.

I have a pair of Nexen tyres fitted to the rear of my 17's

Good value for money with good grip for a wear rating of 340. They do squeal a little when you loose traction though.

I have Bridgestone Potenza RE-01's fitted to the 18", which a currently on the Zed, and they offer far superior grip than the Nexen 3000's. However, I suspect they cost significantly more and with a wear rating of 180 they're about as soft as butter.

The RE-01's currently have 90% tread but if I don't fix my excessive negative camber issues I'll be shopping for new tyres soon.

2,000Km is it. After then you notice the grip really drop off.
