I had a look and then rim I am after is 18"x 8.0 offset 35 according to the thread would 245/40 or 235/40 would be ideal for the front? Would I get clearance or need spacers for that? Thinking 265/45 for the rear is that okay?

Depending on spoke design, you should be fine with those numbers however

You need r35's to keep the size as close as the originals but they are bloody expensive.

I've been running 235/40/18 Front & 265/35/18 Rear for many years, without any issues whatsoever(265/45 would give you a larger rolling diameter and an incorrect Speedo reading).:zlove:

I have run 17", 18' AND (currently) 19" rims and tyres 245 fr/275r without problems of any kind. Larger wheel size does affect speedo readings but you can learn to adjust if you use your tacho readings also. Have been followed by police several times without incident.

Was running spacers (mild) but can't remember whether they're still currently fitted. No problems here either... just don't go overboard. If you're stuck for nice rims or tyres I have some available... but in Sydney!

Does it make a difference having 265/45 on the rear as opposed to 235/40 all round? Or just for looks?

Mike it doesn't make a difference IF you choose the correct profile to keep rolling diameter the same.

Of course you can run the same front & rear(although most owners prefer to have wider tyres on the rear).
The majority of Z32's that I have seen, have wider rims on the rear(ipso facto, wider rear tyres).:zlove::zlove:

Does wider tyres on the rear improve handling or beneficial? Sorry for the nagging questions just want to make sure I got the facts

Short answer: YES(however, wider is not always better, as in many other cases):p:zlove::zlove:
A good balance is to have the rear rims between 20mm to 40mm wider than the fronts(any bigger can lead to other issues in some instances).:zlove:

Not only that, but it also makes the car feel little sluggish.

    Well I've been running

265x35x18's all round now , for years without any problems.
I also find that checking my speedo with a GPS gives me an acurate indication of my actual speed, which just happens to be exactly as indicated on the speedo. :)
Running with these all round also allows me to rotate my tyres without problems. And before any smartarse makes comment, Yes they do rotate when driving..:rofl:.
I have Volk F O Challenge Rims on my car that are as follows: Fronts 8 1/2" wide x 18", Rears 9 1/2" wide x 18" and still run the same size rubber, as above.
What does matter though, is the Offset of the rims, both front and back wheels.
I do not have any issues with the Struts or Inner Guards, front or rear and I do not have rolled guards either.
    I hope this helps you.

    Regards
    Kerry

Haha thanks chilli & Kerry. Chilli can you show me what yours looks like lowered with those sizes. I have no inner guards on the rear or fronts so I should be okay, decided to do the same as chilli and have 235/40 fronts and 265/35 rear just want a comfortable ride. 35offset should clear the brakes?? or will need spacers?
