It seems im getting a power overload....

my amp is cutting off automatically.. my climate control cuts off, high beam doesnt work at all... and my apexi neo reads 16.5Vs at the batt.

now this only happens when im driving... aka foot on accelerator.. when im stopped it drops to 13.4v and everything works fine...

only started happening in the last week or 2, but then i was driving all day yesterday and it never happened, 1st 10min driving to work, 16.5v, then 5 mins of it working fine.... then 5 mins of not working....

how is my car making more power?

oh and the alternator was rebuilt about 3 months ago by the by

    wtf?

I looked up the alternator out of interest. Man, didn't realise where it was:

In my g/friends liberty it's at the front up the top, is there anything in the Z that's easy to remove apart from the throttle cable cover?

on most cars the volatge regulator is in the alternator. should have been replaced with alternator rebuild.

Yeh, I would have thought the alternator rebuilders would have replaced this at the same time. I'd be going back there and asking what is up.

Yeah, it was internal in the Z31.

    2nded - voltage regulator

BTW: Is your power steering leaking? Ifso, it may have dripped into the alt and killed it which will void your warranty on the rebuilt alternator... VERY common problems...

See? Such a bad idea putting open electrical stuff at the bottom of the engine under all the dripping liquid parts

As mentioned your voltage regulator is stuffed, which in the Z32 is a component of your alternator. Hope you got a warranty with the rebuild!!!

Yeah don't do too much driving in the meantime in fact don't do any at all if you can help it. At best you're overcharging your battery which is going to make it drop acid everywhere and probably cut the lifespan bigtime, and at worst...........?

    The alternator has

a rectifier and a regulator, a total rebuild costing $400+ would probably cover both, if it cost less, likely the regulator was not changed.
Although, new products can become faulty at any time, even factory DOA.
If you don't fix it, some electrical components may become damaged, and your battery acid will boil dry.

Keep a check on the battery water level.

Keep lights and fans on + keep at low revs.

zed is at the shop as we speak. made it very clear that they are paying for it... the producer of the part covers the cost of that and the sparkie covers the cost of the work. so should hear back tomorrow...

until then ull see me driving a 4tonne 6 wheeled truck around hhha
