    Hey guys,

With compliancing 89 cars under the 15 yr old rule. What Im curious about is where the $750 to $1500 for compliancing goes.

With a 89' 300. What would need to be changed to make it ADR standard and do u need a report or anything? Is it possible for you to do the compliancing yourself and just get a RWC?

Can someone shed some detailed light on whats involved?

    Thanks

These can be done by anyone, and may include retractable seatbelts for rear seats, sun visors, child restraint points on the rear parcel shelf for cars with rear seats, high level brake light, driver's side mirror to be changed from convex to flat, unleaded fuel filler opening restrictor, side intrusion bars, engineer's certificate, and a new set of tyres if the Japanese tyres are worn out...

    15yr compliancing

You can do it yourself if the seatbelt are okay in the back, check by pulling them and if they retract without sticking and are in good con no need to replace them, look up a list of gov approved engineers to have a look they will tell you what you need to do, mirror take it of and down to nearest glass place they will replace with flat glass for about $20 these are the things they don't tell you at the raws w/shop Some can quote $2000-$4000 what's all the money for? and the Strong rumour going round is next year you will have to take it to a raws w/shop just another nail in the import coffin. From $400-$500 to $2000-$4000 in the last 5years

Not sure if you're right about the seatbelts

As I understand it the Australian seatbelts have a different clip mechanism. Not better, not worse, just different and it is one of the ADR's that has to be met. I gather some engineers turn a blind eye and let the original ones thru if they work OK. Compliance certificate for NSW rego nearly double the price of same for Qld. Doesn't pay to live South of the Border.

I've been told that the only difference in J-Spec & Aus-Spec seatbelts

is the J-Spec ones have not been tested for die fading, this info comes from a very well known Zed compliancer in Vic.

    just done this in WA

    Hi

I have just joined having imported an 89 TT 2+2 last month. The compliance cost me $1300 and included welding work for side intrusions bars, rear seatbelts, rear kiddy seat mounting points, re-stamping the chassis number and a load of other bits and pieces. I kept my original front seat belts. Apart from the welding work most people should be able do do it themselves but I am not sure how much would be saved. The tyres can be brand new but if they do not have an E4 or DOT stamp on them they will fail the engineering check for registration. Most Jap tyres do not have these markings but I managed to borrow a set that were OK. In WA I also had to fit an immobiliser.
