Does anyone know where this is located? I have a little project on the go which needs power when one of the doors open. I am sure it would be behind one of the front kick panels but unless I get an extension for my continuity meter, will take a long while to find.

    Cheers.

I think you're looking in the wrong place for your +12V feed

The way the interior lights work is that the activating relay has a constant 12V applied to it and it is activated by being earthed through the door switches. In other words the lines to the door are on the low side of the relay - not what you want.

What you need to do is find a constant 12V source for your project. There are lots of these but the line to the clock is an easy one to get to if your project is not going to draw too much current. Then you activate your device by using the door earth switch.

See Pg EL-64 of the manual and you will see that the earth lines are green on the driver's side and red with white stripe for the passenger. It seems that the two sides are electrically isolated from each other through the use of diodes. Why that was done is not explained but if you use say the drivers side earth line for your project, nothing will happen when the passenger door is opened, and vice versa). I had that problem when I first fitted my car alarm.

If you want both sides to act as triggers, you will need to connect your earth line to both sides, but remember to use in line diodes in both these lines to preserve the electrical isolation of the two doors that Dr Nissan designed into the electrics. As the wise man says, there is a reason for everything but sometimes we don't know what it is.

Good luck, and as always all care but no responsibility!

    Cheers:zlove:

Thanks for the help guys, saved me a lot of time searching.

I figured the relay was in the place you described Rob, I could hear it clicking when I was trying to source the feed when I was pushing the button on the pillar. I think I will take Angrybear's suggestion and grab a constant 12V and bring the earth wire to both doors.

    Thanks again! :)
