    Hi All,

Just got my Z and it's almost done 100Ks. Is there some out in Melbourne's west you guys can recommend to do the servicing and how much will it cost approx. Also is the timing belt part of the servicing cos mine is starting to make unusual noises.

I had Graham (Tektrader) do mine, he is in Berwick, did a good job. Got a few of the other gremlins out of the car in the process. Others may suggest someone closer to you.

cost me $600 in parts for 100k service kit, (although I got mine off a forum member)
Tek did the work for about $600.
    Pretty good price

That's a pretty good price, had a auto centre quote me $1200 just to do the timing belt alone. Does that forum member still sell the kit??

Berwick is probably abit far for me, am out in Sunshine/Derrimut. Where does everyone out in my area take their Z's for servicing???

Looked a site cazracing.com.au, and they have a kit, but selling it at over $800, $900+ for Gates timing belt. Wonder if any member can offer the same deal but at a better price?

Issue with 100K service kits you buy complete. IS that most times you dont need all the stuff in them.

You dont go changing cam or crank seals unless they are leaking. I have seen more newly replaced seals leak than old ones.

IMO you need, timing belt, tensioner complete, the 2 idler rollers, water pump, set of fan belts, thermostat, short stub hoses, coolant.

You only need the bottom crank gear if the seal is leaking.

The idler rollers and tensioner are available after market a lot cheaper than OEM. Buy a Nissan water pump and thermostat.

The 5 cam/crank gear seals are cheap compared with a 2nd 100k strip-down. How many Members have posted stories after the event wishing they'd done a FULL service?

Agree with: "The idler rollers and are available after market a lot cheaper than OEM. Buy a Nissan water pump and thermostat." Where do you buy an after-market tensioner complete? Not just the bearing.

Got my tensioner with pulley from the local bearing shop i think it was just under $210 .

You can buy the tensioner complete locally down here for $155 from Central Bearings and the idlers for $35-40 each.

I have had MORE intake gear leak failures than seal failures. I have actually changed more recently replaced seals (done by other people) that have leaked than old ones.

Agreed, I'm yet to see a leaky cam seal on a Zed...

When you say ( intake gear seal ) do you mean the o'ring behind the cover with 4 screws on the front of the intake cam ?.
    Thanks Dave

I had a small issue of getting cam seals when i did the heads/ gasket's ect process, i didnt know about this forum or didnt think of the net though, instead i used RB20DET cam seals, they seamed to have worked fine :)

    No, the crank/camshaft lip seals.

No, the actual gear itself, it is made in several parts and the rear section can come loose and leak oil.

3rd Chrispy and Tekky, leave the seals alone if they are not leaking.

    Thanks guys,

Brytech did p.m. with a special for servicing, but might be abit too far to get there, unless the service can be done in one day??? Is that possible?? Seem's like Brytech is the Zpert out in the West cos alot of other members seem to mention it. If I can't find anyone closer, around Sunhine, looks like I will have to make the trek to Geelong for a day trip. Might be able to organise something with Brytech to get it done in a day.

Yeah, 100K in a day is easy enough.

Unfortunately there isn't anyone around our area mate. Im in Altona I took mine to Joe at Top Choice Motors (now works at Dontex Automotive) and he did it in 8 hours for cost me around $1500 all up for parts + labour. Joe has 15 years Z experience and i was very happy with the service. Unfortunately Vermont is a long way away.

I changed out the camshaft seals when I did my 100k service.. I figure that since you're there doing it anyway it's not that much more work. The hardest part was getting the seals :p

I go along with this advice, as far as DIY is concerned, as far too easy for damage to be done extracting old seals.
I have seen many Zeds in a local workshop with leaking cam seals, usually because not replaced at a previous (partial) 100k/200k service.
End of the day ... it's up to the owner, if workshop offers a warranty, well ... nuff said. :zlove:
