From what I can gather in the other threads about 100k services, the best way to do it is buy a kit then take it to a mechanic.
Everybody on the coast reccommends Gavin Wood's but when I called they said it would be over $1000 just for labour. Combined this with the cost for the kit, it comes to around $1700.
Is this normal? I heard that one guy got the whole service done for about $1100. Am I asking for the wrong thing when talking to the mechanic?
    Thanks :)

    That price is bullshit!

4 hours labour is what it takes, about $400.
Dont get ripped off, do it yourself.

    I paid $1500

for mine about 3 years ago. But I got everything done while the front of the engine was off, not just the basics.

I just did mine without any mechanical knowledge......

Its really not that hard, with the right tools and possibly another person who has experience working on cars. I followed the 60k service guide from TTZD.com and didnt have many dramas at all. Save yourself some money, get the job done right and you might actually learn something along the way.

what is the difference between "everything" and "just the basics" ?

    Dont do a "Basic" Service!

I spent the best part of 2 hours yesterday helping a mate change his water pump cause he didn't get it changed when he did his timing belt. Unfortunatley for him cause he did not change the cam and crank seals they are leaking and the timing belt is contaminated with oil, once this happens they don't last too long. When I did my service (myself) I changed T-Belt, cam and crank seals, VCT springs and orings, T-Belt pulleys, water pump and thermostat. All up the parts cost around $800 and about a day of my time to do it. Since then I reckon I could knock it over in around 5-6 hours.

    i cant remember exactly but

    I had the following changed:

    Timing belt
    Idler pulley
    Tensioner
    Waterpump
    Thermostat
All associated oil seals (cam seals, front main seal etc)
The two bastard rubber hoses hidden in the front of the engine
and some other stuff, but I cant remember..:)

    Cheers

    What exactly was quoted on?

Gavin Wood charges $65 p/h & has done at least 8 100k services in past few weeks, most with the Coz kit supplied.

100k labour would not come to $1000 unless you are also doing plenum pull etc at same time.

GW is scrupulously honest ~ summat doesn't add up.

    More info req'd.

    Re: Basic Service

When I bought my zed, I knew nothing, at least now I know how much I dont know about these cars.

When I got my 100k service, the shop only did the belt and pulleys plus check the usual stuff. This post has just put me on alert to get the seals and everything else done ... sooner rather than later. These are the 'basic things' i suppose we all need to do, but as newbies we didnt have a clue, we always kick ourselves

Gavin Woods did mine afew weeks ago and charged about $1400 parts

and labour including tension rod bushes supplied and fitted. You must have got additional stuff quoted on. I second K-zeds comment on Gavin's honesty.

and in my case, a couple of weeks ago ..... GW insisted on

COMPULSORY follow up 100kkm inspections at no additional cost ... it was made clear to me that autotech had my zed's interests at heart and that i was required to report back for two post surgery examinations ..a week apart..

a further plus i have found with being a GW customer is that both gavin and his offsider, brett, make themselves available to provide advice, clarification or whatever on any zed matter, as required, on a drop in basis ...

    Egg ....

I had a whole pile of other things....

...done by GW when they did my 100k.
Auto was serviced, diff oil was changed, tension rod bushings were replaced, replaced brake fluid, flushed cooling system, series II PTU installed.
Along with tensioners and idlers and all the seals, compression test, waterpump and sparkplugs, even had to drill and remove crank sprocket to change crank seal.
Labour was $652 and I got a hundred discount for cash.
Something's not right, they don't overcharge. Are they doing a plennum pull?

prophet ...jump in your car, gone down and have a talk with them ..

eliminates any confusion, you get to see/know who you are dealing with, tell gavin or brett that you are a forum member and so on .... 23 gibbs street, labrador, just down from harbour town .. towards the m1 ...

I called again and got the following information.
    engine oil
    plug washer
    spark plugs
    thermostat
    waterpump
    idler bearings
    tensioner bearings
    timing belt
    bypass hoses
    coolant
    power stearing belts
    datastream

    1400$
combined that with a discount for paying in cash like someone said, it's a lot easier to swallow. I must've implied something different last time I called.
