afew days ago...driving in town i came to a stop and the car started dying and just stalled...but its an auto...so i didnt think anything of it..has never happened before (have owned the car for 6months and done approx 6,500kms on it) then this morning driving to work, when i parked my car and stuck it in drive..it started rev'ing to about 2,000-2,500 revs..when it usually idles at 600-800ish...and i had my foot on the brake pedal...any ideas?

    cheers,

doesn't sound anything like what my car did when o2s finally died big time

but then mines a manual so maybe diferent.

Mine developed a ugly ugly flat spot between about 2K and 3K rpm

Went away as soon as i disconnected the O2's
Stayed away when tom put the new O2s in

So i guess... disconnect your o2s and see what happens.

Its an embaressingly easy diagnostic step

    Won't be 02's

I'd be checking the TPS settings (should be .45v), and also the IACV.

Also, see the looooong list of things to check in TECH SECTION :D under erratic idle.

It may simply be split or loose vac hose.
