there will still be flow. Heater on/off is just a tiny little tap in the pipes behind the dash, near the heater core. Which hose is crimped, the bypass hose?

yes thats right the bypass hose and the crimp is pretty bad by the looks of it, it would be shutting off almost all circulation
when i stopped the car due 2 the gauge shooting up i heard loud boiling noises from that back bypass hose
    i might have 2 get a longer peice of flexi-hose ??
because i'd rather no crimps whether its important or not i feel unsafe leaving it like this

    You can buy

a FORD heater hose that only needs shortening & it fits prefectly with no kinks. From memory I think it's a Ford EF model hose.

No, the other way I was referring too. If the heater feed is just looped then there may be a reduction in flow to the turbo's.

    How so?
The turbo take-off is well before the feed into the heater firewall piping.
Mine ran for 5 months before I did the heater core replacement, and the turbo's didn't suffer any problems in that regard.

im about to do this bypass on my car and i may possibly ask a really stupid question. Bypassing the heater core would obviously not make my heater work so will this affect my cooling to the cabin? :)

Does not affect a/c operation. :zlove:

Just wondering something. When you do the bypass, is there any coolant in the heater core end that you need to drain? Like if I ended up draining all coolant from bottom of radiator, is that enough? I just bypass the heater pipes and voila?

Or would I like turn on the heater and shoot coolant all over the engine through the open pipes just to make sure theres none left in the heater core? :D

And just what do you suggest is going to "shoot coolant out of the heater"?
The coolant flow through the heater core is provided by the engines water pump. If you have removed the heater hoses(and carried out the bypass)then there is no coolant entering the heater core, and subsequently no coolant exiting said core either.
You DO NOT need to drain any coolant from the radiator or cooling system(although you may need to top-up the radiator when you have finished the by-pass).

oh ok. Wasnt sure if there was anothe pump behind the dash or something. So whats hidden there that i cant see? A mini radiator thing, a fan, some vents, and vent motors?

I wonder why people even bother doing the bypass. I mean, unless they can't get new heater hoses themselves, I don't really see the point.

I'm very far from proficient, and have decent-sized hands and even I managed to change the hoses in about an hour on a manual zed.

isnt it usually because of a problem with the heater core? and because removing the dash to fix it takes ages, so a temporary fix is the bypass?

also i dont think ive used the heating in the zed ever. so if the heater core fails, might as well remove it rather than buying a new one? save some weight and some cash? as well as simplify things?

im just having a guess here, as ive never had heater problems but am planning ahead for if i ever do. if my reasonings not sensible, please let me know :)
