Was tossing up between the z, supra and rx7 in the beginning. Rx7 was a bit too pricey, supras were too common. So the z won thru elimination.
Looks half decent and isn't everywhere like skylines. And now i stick to it because I already put a fair few coins in and they sell for too little.

Having bought a 1991 n/a aus spec a few months ago ,it has never stoppped making me happy to jump in and go for a spin.As stated before -a head turner and where I live there aren't many so its a rel buzz to get the looks even with its current condition (Lots to be done and plenty of money to be spent ).yes i believe it to be a real icon , a car designed to keep its sporty looks as others age and are forgotten !Gotta love the Zed !!!

the zed isnt a car....... its a lifestyle.

Pure , stunning, class, performance, & comfort....... find that in any other 20 yearold car !

And 20 years on its still 'up there' with todays modern tech wonders.

Ahead of its time ??????? Oh yeah , and time is still playing catchup

Ahhh, the day when I first saw one..

Was currently looking for my first car and wanted something different not a boring old bomb...anyways was crossing at the lights and "IT" drove past, I was like, "What was that"...saw on the rear it said 300zx and thought I would never be able to afford it...got home and checked out carsales and well it was in my price range, so from then on all I did was look for a nice zed..

    Positives:
    1. P-plate legal
    2. Awesome headlights
    3. Awesome shape
    4. All the electrics
    5. Targas
    6. Cheap
    7. The list goes on and on and on...

    Negatives:
    1. Being my first car may damage it (Which I haven't *touches wood*, but others have *sigh*)
    2. Issues with parts (My god, I don't know any other 20yo car that has sooo many parts available, it's ridiculous!)
    3. Only 2-seater (I haven't ever had issues with this)

    Keeping reasons:
    1. Love it to bits!
    2. Enjoy the daily browsing on the forum
    3. Excessive money spent on the car..
    4. See point 1.

Looks are a funny thing. My mate hated the look of the zed (I couldn't comprehend how anyone could think I zed is not sexy) but eventually he got used to it and ended up buying one. It didn't take long before he wrote it off though.
My girlfriend wasn't keen on the looks but eventually came around. Now that we have one she loves the look of it. I guess the fact that it's the same colour as her bike helps ;)
For me I always found the zed to be one of the best looking cars out there. I ended up getting a supra in favour of power and reliability, and having fitted a bodykit to it I find extremely pleasing to the eye. But the zed was always at the back of my mind trying to make itself a reality till eventually a deal came along that I couldn't resist :)
Can't wait to pull the engine out and chuck in a nice set of twins with plans of around the 300rwkw mark, which should be plenty for the street. If the engine dies I'll source some forget internals and pump out a little more :)

Sorry this is a long one, but this is a topic close to my heart:zlove:

News of the new TT Z32 held the same kind of awe back in the early 90's as the current GTR does. It was heralded with the same level of complexity, power and speed above the average car as the new GTR does now also.

It wasnt till around 1998 that I saw my first TT in the flesh, it was akin to seeing an enzo on the road and the fleeting sight of it driving past wasnt nearly enough for me and I kept an eye out for it for months afterwards but did not lay eyes on it again for another 4 years. By that time Id bought my NA, a decent TT for under $50K was near impossible to find and my car was far better than any other zed Id been able to find so far.

The car yard that imported my zed knew that I was keen, I spied the car early one saturday morning and returned with the missus shortly after, and after chatting for almost an hour with the salesman he loaned us the car for a half day test drive (basically till the business closed that day) with the promise of taking the car home till monday morning if required as they were closed on Sundays.

I was blown away by this guys trust and generosity, I must have looked like someone intent on owning a zed! I actually returned the car after only 40 minutes of cruising around Newcastle and promised to purchase as soon as the finance came through. The car was practically brand new and still had that new car smell.

That night I returned to the car yard and spent around 2 hours going over the car with a torch, I inspected every single part of the car I could access, I even wiggled under it from behind to inspect as much of the undercarriage as possible and crawled around the rest of the car inspecting those hard to see places. I didnt care if the cops turned up, I was totally absorbed and just had to be sure that the car was as good as it appeared to be.

Afterwards I was still excited by the car and drove around there twice more during the night to look at it again, and make sure nobody else was messing with the car.

Monday I recieved a call from the yard inquiring if I had heard back from the finance company, which I hadnt. The salesman warned me that another bloke had rung about the car and said he was coming over right now to put a deposit on it, apparently he had seen us driving the car on Saturday and found out off a mate that the car was from a local yard and up for sale.

I jumped in my car and friggen flew over there as fast as a ford telstar could, and ran into the yard to speak to the salesman. I was freaking out as I only had $100 cash on me, but he was a great bloke and was prepared to accept it as deposit on a $25K car.

The other poor guy had arrived in the mean time and was standing proudly by my car waiting for us to finish our transaction so he could lay claim to it (he thought I was there to buy another car), he was not happy to learn he had missed securing the car by minutes and watched with me as the car was driven out the back and out of sight to the yards holding area. If he hadnt called the salesman and told him he was coming over I would have lost my car, and I know I would have been devastated.

We picked up the car later that week on the thursday arvo. I felt like I was driving a super car. There were only 2 Z32's that I knew of in the area at the time, mine and the TT that occasionally made an appearance. I felt like a rock star at the time, people would follow us around in their cars to watch the zed. People would stop me at the servo to ask about it, girls would come over for a chat if was alone and try to charm rides from me:D.

Within the first month we got to experence the jealous side of some people, I chased a pissed idiot who threw a handful of dirt at the car while I was parked in it (he failed to see me sitting in it, I kicked his mates car door in as they took off), and had another idiot throw a milkshake on the car as I drove past (I just took that one on the chin and washed it off).

The 300ZX is a lot more common these days but my car is still special to me after 8 years:zlove:

Nice story Gazza. Keep it coming, that's what this thread is for. Good to see people passionate about their zeds. My dad wasn't impressed when he learnt of my zed purchase. But when he dropped by on the weekend and saw it, his jaw dropped and couldn't get over how cheap I got it and the condition of it. It's not a wise purchase when building a house but there's something captivating about the zed. And it's a great feeling to fulfill a dream you had as a kid.

I like how a lot of these stories have "IT"... the one car that drives you into being a 300zx owner.

I'd seen a 300zx when I was a kid and I had a toy of one, but during my teenage years I wasn't interested in cars...more girls and music than anything else. One day a year or two after finishing school, I saw a gun metal grey Zed in the car park. I feel in love with everything bout it. I couldn't stop thinking about it and told everyone about them. For a year or more i'd obsess over everything 300zx, but there was no way I could buy one at the time (2002 or 2003). I even joined this forum back then under a different username.

Eventually I moved on, bought falcons, bought a house, got married, got divorced and an entire life seemed to pass....and March last year, after what felt a life time, I bought her and haven't stopped thinking about her since.

So going back to the original questions, its the looks, the power, the handling, the technology....everything.

Does anyone else find this sort of thing (beer bottles or road cones put infront of your car in carparks, etc) happens far too often to be mere coincidence?

Yeah just jealousy, the amount of cars that go through my dads work, mercs, beemers... anything nice really, that have been keyed, hit with trolleys etc. is astounding. I once had some piece of scum put out a cigarette on my zeds spoiler, would have given anything to see the prick do it...
