I'm thinking that it might be time for the Z to go... :banned:

I'm after something a bit newer and with a turbo. What's that you say? The NA nut wants a turbo!?! I love my Z, I really do. But it is really costing me WAAAAAAYYYYYY too much money to mod to a level I'm happy with. I got to number 3 on the drag list, so that's not too bad I guess

I don't think I'll be getting a TT Z though. There just getting a bit too old and really good ones are thin on the ground. I'm looking at the R34 GT-T Skyline. There relatively new, just as much power (and nearly as much torque) as the R32 GTR, RWD, they have those groovy tailights and there actually quite a nice car. Of course they don't have the Targa (which I love to bits) and the interiors aren't as nice as the Z's, I think it's a logical choice for a newish car around the $20k mark.

I was adding up all the stuff that I still want to do my Z which is:

Bottom end freshen up with new bearings, rings, bolts etc
Head rebuild with ported heads, oversize valves, big cams, HD springs etc
Proper extractors and full exhuaust system
    Tune

And it cam to an obscene amount of money :( So if I sell my uninstalled bits and the car it will only be a couple of grand more to get the Skyline...

I'm also sick of finding bits for the Z, not to mention having to buy 2 of everything (I spent $700 on cam gears ) and everything has to come from Japan or the States.. I would like a car which I can go to Autobarn and buy an exhuast manifold off the wall, or a intercooler kit. I won't have part suppliers saying "For a 300ZX? Nah mate, won't be able to get that for 6 weeks! And it costs twice as much as the S13/R33/WRX one"

    So if you want:

JUN Cam gears, both intake and exhaust
    JUN flywheel
    Splitfires
    TT heads
    Gasket kit
    Rings
    A whole NA Z (third fastest ;))
and other random crap (sorry I'm keeping the Brembos)

Let me know, first in best served...

Nothing is definate, I'll probably change my mind next week anyway  If I do sell the Z it will be towards the end of the year.

I'll still hang around an come to events, if you'll let me :p, and I'll always be at the tech days sticking my screwdriver where it's not welcome  and I'll come on the cruises coz the Z community is a really great place to be.

So yeah, I'm off to go and trawl skyline forums :bash:

Nah, they should bolt up to the R34. If they don't you can have them. You've got me so many parts I owe you one :)

Why dont you get a MY00 STi its a way better car and way faster 13.0 second 1/4 mile stock standard plus excellent handling, or you could get a Supra RZ.

  5. Benny_C

    Benny_C About as subtle as...

    yes but for 20k...

you'll find a Shmick TTZed with all the stuff done already! (if you buy the right one)

But seriously, look around in the for sale section, Zeds are going for 18-19K and they have litterally had thousands spend on them and everything is already done. That's what I'd be thinking rather than going to a skyrine. JMO.

    i reccon save a couple more g's and import a evo or a rx7 series 8:biggrin:

im on jspec mailing list (sup ben) and i frequently see cars going through there at great prices, it wont be a spirit model but who cares, and the evos would be 6/7.

r34 is a nice car, not a common as the 33 id still prefer a evo though. also a evo over a rexy... rexies are too bloody common around here:banned:

yeah 20k will get you one hell of a Zed, like blipmans old one. it was unreal. I love the r34gtr but i really dont liek the gtst, i always think they are second best. i think i would actually rather a s15 .

Anyway if you are trawling the skyline forum you will see me there!! haha i have half a skyline:zlove:

I'm ready for a change from the Z. I know I could get a really good one for $20k, but it'll still be nearly 20 years old (or no mods and a late model one).

I'll have a look at the Evo's and RX7's, but for one I can afford (specially the RX7's) I will have the same issue of having an old car.

I've always loved the shape of the R34, everyone thinks the GT-T is the GTR anyway... It won't stay stock for long anyway, I've always been a closet lover of the BOV's and that turbo woosh

No way will I buy a WRX, can't stand them! I'd rather have a silvia, or an Integra Type R

I'd rather a 2-Door STi or EVO 5/6 TME over any skyline anyday! But at the end of the day it comes to personal choice, and if you like the R34 go for it!

    Chrispy...

  You were my role model... i really loved aspiring to you and your 3rd fastest N.A 300zx.

Why the change? Have you not heard the saying "they dont build them like they use to?"
And if your selling un-installed parts, id love your JUN inlet and exhaust cams, flywheel, Splitfires, TT heads, Gasket kit and Rings.

Do you still have the design specifications for the custom build extractors?

IMHO... i would go for a r32 gtr for bang for buck for performance, i have always loved the r34's and a GT - T isn't a bad investment, id save for a gtr r34 if it was my call... but thats me...

Never a big fan of evo's, they look like rally cars :bash: :bash:

id say a rx7 < series 6 or 200sx sr20det if it was me

But your beloved 300zx... they are beautiful :zlove: :zlove:

    I just dont understand...

that's half the charm of zeds if you ask me. i like the fact i have privately source and special order parts for my car from overseas. off the shelf stuff from ricebahn or supercrap auto is just so lame. i cringe whenever i walk in there and see the rock bottom sony xplod range they have on display.

oh and uh... i'll call second dibs on your brembos if you end up going non nissan :banned:

    dont do it

if you want more bang for your buck. then source a tt engine and the other parts that are needed. and do a na to tt swap.

Congratualtions Chrispy, you have just realised that to own a Zed purely to get the most bang for buck is the worst finacial mistake you could ever make!

Seriously dude, think about what makes a Zed, definitely not it's ability to make insane power for low investment, especially an N/A! Zeds demand attention and dare I say it, reZpect:rolleyes: Skylines, Rexes and the like don't simply because they are as common as commodores. If power is your thing then go get yourself an XR6T. That would be my choice anyway for something that is good on the juice but available to throw out the KW's whenever you mash the go pedal for relatively low mod dollars.

Anyway dude, it would be sad to see you drive something else but in todays age where the first homebuyer needs to lash out a minimum of $300K it's a wise choice to look at something that won't siphon your pocket as badly.

Thanks for the kind words (I think ) But to spend as much money as I have and not really have anything to show for it is disheartening at best. I didn't even notice that my Z actually went anyfaster until I drove a relatively stock one the other day (thanks Martin), because that everything you do only adds 3-4kw that you never notice :(

I've always loved the look of the R34's since I first saw one about 8 years ago. The evo's are undoubtly fast, but really it's just a hotted up lancer with a gawdy cheap plastic interior. Everyone thinks that it's a normal Lancer with a kit anyway ;)

I always new that the Z would cost a lot, at first I said I would never mod it :p but that got a little out of hand...

Whatever car I buy will siphon out of my pocket just as well as the Z, but with more tangibile results.

Wilo, Zexual and the other NA boys hope you do well and have more of a backbone than me  If you ever need a hand give me a yell. I'll be floating around here still. I'll lend you a hand with the extractors when it's time to make them.

Also have a spare upper and lower plennum hanging around too. Half polished too, that's enough to make you sell the Z anyway :D

I'll be at Zedfest, with or without a Z. Wouldn't miss that for the world! Might have to keep the Z till then, we'll see...

NOO!!! Who will help me fix my zed now :p . sorry to be a wet blanket, but havent you been down this road before? for those of you who dont know i came extremely close to buying chrispys zed in february this year before he pulled out because the love was too great. but anyway, i do see yoru point, the amount of money you have already spent on it is verging on ridiculous not to mention all your future plans, i do admire your commitment to it for this long. for $20k id be torn between r34 skyline and a supra, both very solid, very good infinitely modable cars. its weird that it was my zed that made chrispy realise how relatively futile all his mods have been...please dont ban me  :p

oh btw lol at your changed sig
