Hi. I was after some advice, and since the old forum is down it looks like I wont be able to use the search function. Some quick info about my car: 1991 aus-spec 300zx, manual, 137,000 kms, gun metal grey. I am the second owner of the car, which is completly stock except from the cd player, which I have upgraded to a pioneer DEH6850. Anyway, I was wondering if you could give me some help in a few areas. Exahust - where have you guys gone to get your mufflers/exhaust system changed, and what for (ie what size??? 3inch?). Is there anywhere that you would reccomend, and more importantly avoid? Servicing - Does anyone DIY servicing? Can I take my car to a general mechanic for servicing, or will they be clueless??? Any bad experiences? Body Kit and Paint - In about 3 months I will be looking to fit a bodykit form g-force bodykits & respray the vehicle to get rid of stone chips in my paintwork. Can you reccommend anyone who will not rip me right off? Finnally, does anyone know how to get small dents out of the doors/body? Some inconsiderate retards must have dinged my car at the shops. Sorry for the length of my post, and thanks in advance.
Exhaust: Mettams muffers (morley) or Mindarie custom exhaust are both good. Mettams not quite as good quality but a little cheaper Service: Lot of DIY in perth so plently of help available. There are a few workshops that are good with zeds too. Precise Suspension & Automotive, Hyperdrive, Full throttle Body kit: member fibreZ is starting his own small biz for custom panel and paint work
Respray and body kits in perth try FibreZ a member of this forum, he also may be able to help you with those dents. General workshop will be clueless even some performance workshops, go with ones that know zeds
one thing about zeds mate, you ever look for your oil/fuel filter? easiest in the world to get to!!! service it yaself, least you know shes gettin the best then. your very lucky wif kits n respray mate, message a member called Fibre-Z. he will shortly find ur post, does full repsray with a kit for extremely cheap, if you can find better, your one lucky mofo! i wish he was up in qld so i could goto him lol. minivan will also be able to show you the quality of his work.
be glad ur in perth mate hahaha... minivan and tom (zrated) are the local boys that do alot of work on alot of the forum members, and us FibreZ are getting into business for kits and resprays.. we are currently in talks of teaming up.. drive in stock, come out painted kitted and turboed to the wall... so its a one stop shop...
howdy mate.. welcome to the forum. exhaust - mindarie custom all the way.. the work they did on my car is pure pron body kit, panel work and respray.. fibreZ (theyre getting pretty busy.. but very good value) alot of zedders DIY, if your not capable, a fellow perth zedder and i offer full mechanical services from my place(lots of happy customers, ask around).. or if your the type that wants to get shafted by workshops.. there are a few around who will touch zeds which have already been meantioned.. most generic places will run scared when you open the hood
oh, and you will find the forum is a very friendly place.. most of the perth zedders are mates outside of their car now too.. this is not your average pissing contest ass about flame war type forum.. zed on!
Exhaust = Mettam's Mufflers. I went to the Morley store, got nothing but great service and a product I am happy with. Only cost less than $1200 :> PM me for details. Servicing = Do all my own fluid changes and some other work. Anything big, only had poor experience with mechanics. Cypher or Xspeed are good (bit pricey). Better not to get gaffed by workshop and talk to your local forum members. Minivan, ZRATED, LazyZed (myself), Jinxed etc... are all fairly capable of helping you or pointing you in the right direction. Bodykit = If you are prepared to wait a while, FibreZ on these forums can do it at a very reasonable price but there is a long waiting list atm. Otherwise, go and talk to Fibrevision in Welshpool. Reasonably priced and excellent work. Got quoted $550 to fix and respray front bar (150 to fix, 400 to spray), so a whole kit (front, rear and side skirts) sprayed and fitted would be in the vicinity of $1500 (probably less). Cheers Rob

try again for fibrevision.. i got quoted 2 and a half grand to supply fit and paint a kit and most of their stuff is chinese import thin as shite kits.. they talk it up.. but dont deliver (most of their stuff comes from carmate.. big difference in price from what they order and what they make) oh.. and my bro just got quoted.. 520 for front bar (plus fitting and painting) 380 for sides (plus fitting and painting) 700 for vented bonnet (plus fit and paint...) 1250 for carboin wrap bonnet this was fibrevision im personally waiting for fibreZ to make my kit.. haha.. i dun like to be shafted
A few answers... Hey mate, Welcome aboard. Always nice to see another WA Zed owner on here. As the other boys have already mentioned, Mettams is a good place to get your exhaust done. Because the Zed has a twin exhaust you should be looking at no larger than 2.5". Personally I think piping is piping...it's not brain surgery...if you take your car to one place and they don't get it quite right, take it back and get them to fix it...simple! Bodywork and painting is another story though... Body places, shop around. I got my kit done at Spoiler Shop in Myaree. They did a good job but they took bloody ages so that's probably why. Be prepared to spend a bit to get it fitted and painted. Probably over a grand. But as others have already mentioned, fibreZ from this forum has started his own business in painting/kit fitting...etc...he'll help ya out I'm sure... Servicing...we all usually get together and have mini tech days where we all work on our cars...you're more than welcome to come along with anything you want done when we have these days... You can take your car to a mechanic...but we're better!! *wink* Hope that helps a bit.
welcome and congrats on the zed,sounds likea nice clean car when you have specifid issues,questions just post them up and youll get a shit load of answers prety quick,working on the zed yourself is challenging but not impossible. try and make it to the cruise on the 9th,see coming events so you can meet some of us and really start to enjoy your zedding!!!!
Thanks for the replys. I didn't expect so many so fast. Yeah I would love to come on a cruise/tech day. I will come to the 9/07/06 one, but will be really tired coz I work all sat night. So fibreZ, how do I get in line for your help re kit/paint??? Do I have to fill out a form =) j/k. I will be ready in about 3 months anyway, so I dont mind waiting. As for servicing, it would be great if I could meet up with someone (minivan )to give me a hand, as I know very little when it comes to mechanical stuff, but I would love to learn. When is the next tech day? BTW, I wont be online till tomorrow, have to go home (I use internet at work), so thanks, see yall tomorrow

minivan - He said he already had the kit, just wanted it painted. That would only be fit and paint. FibreZ - Not trying to kill business, he said he wanted it in the next few months is all and given your waiting list is about 6 months at this point, I thought I would give him an option to get it sooner.
