    they sound killer

to be legal you have to put silencers in...but they sound mean, and gave me about a car length i think...

mine are.. or were the same

in being straight through with fibreglass and steel wool and they were dead silent.. until I hacked em up and made them burble. :)

    Nice selection...

    Hey beaver,

I was looking at getting these mufflers as well...from N-Power.

Was just curious as to the sound they will make on the Zed that's all. I'm over the loud droaning sounds aftermarket mufflers make...I want to keep my Zed as quiet as possible.

Let me know how they sound when you install them...I'm also keen on seeing how they look on the Zed...

You don't see too many quad tip exhausts on Zeds these days...one of the reasons I wanna get them. The cannon style has been saturated now and imo, they have lost the appeal they had 5 years ago.

    Nice choice mate! :)

    Cheers
    Rob.

    haha

well, basically it was just going the same route as Scotty with resonators and no mufflers. I liked the sound and had to do something as my mufflers weren't the right size, they were 2.25" from 3" pipe and resonators, no use to me so I replaced the perforated 2.25" pipe inside them with regular 3" pipe. Seems crazy but I liked the look of the mufflers and it was cheaper than buying new tips, I can also switch it out with perforated 3" and repack the mufflers if it gets annoying or I get hassled by the police.

90tt fitted them but found them way too loud

I have the same ones not yet fitted. However theres hope cos Karl (90tt) blocked one of the outlets (per muffler) and reckons it toned it down to 86db. I'm still waiting for further info from him before doing anything with mine though.

    hmmm

with the group buy comming up on the tune agent dumps and test pipes im almost tempted to replace my whole exhaust

i havent checked exactly what I have but car was sold to me with aparantly 3" straight through. the dumps are stock but its a trust exhaust system on there. car had a number of trust and upgraded parts which i have found. but its only twin exhaust. Ive always loved the look of the zed with quad exhausts but havent found a set of mufflers i really like.

I get the feeling its not 3" but 2.5" anyway but not sure, need to measure it up.

After a bit of frigging around, these mufflers are good for the price

As Doom said, I was going to make some silencers like what you find that come with cannon style mufflers. All you need to do is cut a piece of 2.5" exhaust pipe about 3" long which fits nicely in the outlets and blank off one end of each silencer.

What I was originally going to do and I yet still might, was going to hole saw a 32mm hole in the blanked off end and weld in a piece of 25mm NB pipe 3" long so you would effectively be reducing the outlet size down to 1" each. I then drilled a hole in the base of each muffler tail pipe and then a hole the right size for a self taper (stainless ones of course)into each silencer.

The silencers are then extremely easy to remove, just take out each screw, start the engine and give it a rev and they pop out.

What I have currently before I was going to hole saw the silencers, I ran the engine with them all in acting as plugs but as you may appreciate they are not a neat fit so some gas can still escape. It was really quiet, like the stock system so I removed one from each side and it sounded quite good and after a noise measurement, 86dBA. Because one side of each muffler is open it is still a 2.5" outlet, not 3.5" as it states as the diameter steps in 1/2" inside. But even with one tail pipe open on each side I still notcie a perfomrance gain and this is still with the stock H-Pipe.

    Nice work Karl !

Im thinking they could be louder with my setup,2.5 dumps test pipe x pipe then the mufflers, i was thinking off putting more s/s wool inside them. i not sure if that would quiten them much, or how much it would restrict flow, never had to tune a muffler before,if my idea dosent work, ill do what you did
and block on outlet each side.

I can't see how dump and test pipes would make it louder.

however I am getting a 2.5" X-Pipe made and fitted this Friday so will let you know how it goes.
