BEST MOD FOR MONEY!!! Get a replacement exhaust. Get rid of those restrictive stock dump pipes and get a set from Custom Exhaust Specialists (QLD). Do it properly and get the dumps ceramic coated and get a high flow cat (for the future work if considering to spend more money later downt he track). These things along iwth an exhaust really increase the power. Then get rid of the stock airbox and replace it with a rampod (easy conversion you can do yourself and only costs bout $120). I had 187kw at the wheels at this stage on my automatic zed. If you still have money left over (which you should do, i.e. full exahust shouldn't cost any more than $3000). upgrade the radiator for the harsh aussie climate. Remember reliabilty is just as important when incrasing power. I wouldn't go a front mount cooler, it restricts airflow to the already hot nissan engine bay. Its important you get airflow over the radiator and engine bay to keep the plastic and harness (electrical systems) in good order. If anything and you really want to the intercooler then I would upgrade the splits intercoolers to larger ones and front bar with good side intakes to suite which would work out to about the same cost and you get a new funky front bar. Dont pull your engine out, it may end up costing you much more than $5000. as things break on engine removal, etc (i.e. wiring harness plugs, coolant hoses and screws if not done properly, possible aircon disconnection etc). Oh and I wouldn't get any work done at Acacia Ridge Auto Electrics. + in most cases teh zed bottom end is almost indestructable. Try to spend the money on parts not labour, so do things that are fairly easy to get to in the zed. That way your less likely to go over budget. Oh and get grooved upgraded rotors for the brakes on the front (dont get cross drilled as they can crack under heat). This makes a HUGE difference to the stopping power of your zed and its CHEAP! Hope this helps - BTW I've done just about everything to my engine and went way overbudget so be careful! The best single power gain for money was teh exhuast done by Trever from CES.
Re: Does anyone have any good websites for 300zx upgrades/parts, at this stage I can do the exhaust, ECU, boost controller, intercooler, and some gauges and pedels for $5500. Do aftermarket bonnets significantly decrease engine temps? Which of these would be hard for me to install myself, I don't have much experience but downloaded an article on installing an Apexi AVC-R and think I can do it. Anything to be weary of? I will get the car pressure tested and everything from RACQ. Does anyone know of any good mechanics or one to steer clear of in the brisbane area. Also Dyno testing and tuning, how much and is it value for money? Do the ECU and boost controller upgrades make dyno testing more neccessary or less neccessary? Thanks everyone for your replies keep em coming.
I would start by filling out your member details.... in light of some previous postings on this forum & you might get some more helpful feedback from people in your state. Otherwise two good places to start would be Uas & Ttz Increasing boost or altering ecu mapping should always be done on a dyno, a couple of hundred dollars in dyno time is WAY cheaper than rebuilding a motor.
what about high-flowing your turbo's I'm going to do this when I get my new TT High Flow turbo's Front Mount Exhaust Apexi AVC-R Apexi S-AFC Does anyone have much experience with the Apexi stuff. I've been doing heaps of reading and they seem pretty good value for money! Nate
Any turbo work usually involves pulling the motor....... so I don't see that as a value hp for dollar situation unless you are already pulling the motor & your turbos are up for a rebuild anyway. Rather than buying the AFC (which can only alter AFR's) I would be putting the $700 toward some form of "tunable" ecu. Just my opinion.
GTR's Are pretty quick A friend owns one, R32. All that's done is Exhaust (Cat back) and 14psi. Not even a pod filter yet. With a granny launch (clutch wasn't running well) he pulled a 13.5 400m. I'm no great driver, but I had a bit of clutch problem (only at the peak in 3rd) and I only ran a 14.04. Admittadley some one with a good launch could have run a 13.7 - but still that's one quick car (the GTR). Personally, if he is that much of a tool, dissing your ride (that's street for insult), then forget about him... and steal his girl. Bam I'd just bring the Car to UAS, they'll hook you up nicely.
300zxs aren't great? Then perhaps you should get him to challenge John P on the track. The owner of www.300zx.com.au, the place you're thinking of purchasing from. John loves ripping GTR's on the track.
Is that all you gotta put up with though? Again, i'm finding notes at work my brother leaves behind saying how Ford Cortinas are the best cars, and how crappy and slow 300ZX's are etc. He also loves the WRX because one beat me at a set of lights when I didn't try (never dump the clutch next to other cars and would you flog an engine and go high boost thats cold?) ah, he'll never let me hear the end of that  Still, for a guy thats only ever driven a Cortina, he sure has a lot to say about other cars!! Dont let them get to you. We know our zeds can kick arse
Re: Is that all you gotta put up with though? you think thats bad? my younger brother has a R31 skyline and even though it doesnt run (had a busted clutch, then he had the engine out, now it has a flat battery) it still manages to be the best thing on four wheels, go figure?
