I have a quetion! I just bought my 300ZX on Friday and i have a quetion regarding the fuel consumption! I chucked in a FULL tank of Petrol of SHELL OPTIMAX which i got in 50Litres and on a full tank i have only done 280km. I have a stock standard engine witch is a NA with a 5 speed. and have been driving it sensible and changing at LOW RPM and 4 times gave it a good booting but is the fuel consumption REALLY THIS BAD? I averaged it out and on average of 100km it takes 17 litres of Petrol. Is this NORMAL? Please help me and advise me is this what i should expect or anything to reduce the petrol consumtion? Thanks ALOT, Maciek :YD
02 sensors, i had the exact same problem and i chucked in the new ngk ones and i average about 380km/full tank on my TT with normal + heavy driving.
What is a 02 Sensor? Whats a 02 sensor and how many litres is your tank? Also how much will it cost me to install?
They are......>> Oxygen sensors mounted in the exhaust manifolds the the ECU uses to read the amount of unburnt fuel in the exhaust gases. The ecu then adjusts the fuel mixture accordingly. For more info try using the search function as this is a common area of discussion. All Z32 fuel tanks hold 72 liters.
O2 sensors measure the gasses in your exhaust system, and based on that your computer will adjust the air/fuel ratio.I find it very interesting, as my engine has been rebuilt recently, which offcourse included things to be replaced. New : O2, platinum plugz, injectors cleaned & tested. And what caught my attention is that i only get Exactly 280kms out of a full tank of Optimax. I am planning to take it on a dyno for a full checkup. What i hear you should be able to get like 400kms out of a tank.P.S If you find anything keep me posted as i am interested in any findings.Cheers!
What are ngk ones..? Do you mean your O2 sensors are ngk? Are they cheaper than genuine? Because I think mine are gone too.
Do all 300's have 72 Litre Tanks? Becuase this is the second time i have filled up tbe tank and both times i filles up like right on the white empty mark and i have only been able to fill in 50 litres?Could it be possible that my tank is a smaller one is it that my Fuel tacho is actually faulty?
They are all 72 liters......>> It is very possible that your gauge is not 100% acurate. Is your low fuel warning light comingh on? That happens when there is between 10 and 12 liters (approximately) left in the tank.
Filling up Does anyone else find you need to have the fuel nozzle practically out of the filler tube otherwise it the bowser just keeps clicking off. And for fuel consumption, i too am a new owner and havent quite used a tank due to repairs i wanted to do before driving it but i just sold a 5 litre VK cause it used a 63 litre tank of fuel getting about 320klms. Hopefully i can get more out of my N/A than that. :s
Answers>>> Fuel economy (highway) in my NA auto is regularly low 9's (my latest Red Cliffs(nr Mildura) - Melb plus 2 days to-and-from work 614km/56L =9.1L/100km) Thats with stuffed O2 sensors and a few k's of exuberant driving! Capacity is aound 72L, but I've never got close to that... usually takes 50L when the guage hits "E". Most I've ever put in is 60L. Nice to know there is a large reserve. Filling always requires juggling the nozzle of the filler to stop premature shut-off (?opposite to the male problem?) Hope this helps, Cheers, Doug
Does anyone know what the voltage of the AFM should be at idle. I am thinking that the computer knows that it is running rich and compensates but there simply isn't enough air coming in. I belive it's something with the air intake related parts. Ill hopefully work it out soon enough.
Yes The guage only shows 50 litres and then you have 22L to get to the nearest servo! Largest fill I ever had to do was 68 litres! I made the appropriate 'belch' sound effect afterwards that's for sure As for fuel consumption, I use 14l/100km :N( Would love to get the mileage that doug (red32) gets. 600km a tank is criminal!! What did you do to it?Cheers Rob
My fuel cons significantly improved after changing the injector loom connectors as per the tech on this site. Yes it was one tech article that I tackled single handedly (literally) and was actually successful. Also got my injectors cleaned and flow checked. Turned up they flow 30% better. F-ed if I know what that means. Now I get more like 450kms to the light on the dash than the old 360kms. Not so sure about the accuracy of the mileage counter as it takes lots of pushes to zero the darn thing and every now and then it just sticks and wont tick over as per normal. But at refill time its around 450-458kms. So iam happy that the fuel economy now sits about 12.8l/100kms :-Z
After injectors cleaned and 02 sensors> checked etc, I get easily 450+ before dash light. Think the manual has a lot to do with it. I certainly don't take it easy however when highway cruizing I do keep it at 95-98 kays. :YD
