I never bother with the third bolt - stops you from being able to take the mirror off with the door card still on.

That did occur to me. Third bolt is probably Nissan overengineering, they could have put a stud in there just to position it for the other bolts.

I loosened the third bolt that hides behind the door card with my ratchet spanner. Then a tied a bit of fishing line on it, before loosening it off completely. I had a telescoping magnet positioned below and it missed, I was lucky the fishing line was on the bolt.
I didn't need to remove the door card, but I did remove the two philips head screws from the front edge of the door card.

If I didn't have my ratchet spanner and fishing line tied on the bolt, I would not have put the third bolt back on. Not worth taking the door card off and busting a couple of gromit clips.

Are you serious? 2/3 might be a majority but why would you knowingly leave a mirror LESS secure  How much force do you think acts on that little guy at freeway speeds? It takes all of 20 minutes to pull a door trim off, not a good excuse and dangerous to other motorists if it should come loose...

First time post for me...Never really had a reason to post before. But after getting side swiped from someone who didn't see me at night. I decided to remedy the situation by getting it painted even blacker ! Super Jet Black (Protech).. Done at Pymble Smash Repair Hornsby. Ask for Frank he does great work.

Yes the guy was giving me strange looks when he admitted liability and I started jumping up and down excitedly. I've been putting off getting it painted for ages !

Sad I did not go on today's cruise, but happy that I didn't, the wife of the guy I sold my first z too rang me and said pick it up take it for fee :) my husband doesn't now how to fix it and get it to run. So I went over spent an hour on it fired first go, how did you get it to go she asked, I just cleaned all the connection replaced the fuel line, then drove it home and there was no indicators so have now fixed them and washed off 5 years of dust :D and she all most looks like she did 7 years ago when I got her.

For the red car, I worked from 9:30 am to 11:30 pm yesterday just getting my brakes sorted. That included 6 trips to 2 different bunnings stores, 4 trips to the local auto store and 1 trip to Supercheap. I think I spent about 4 hours out of the house. But can now stop on a dime.

Swapped NA callipers for TT, pulled off old NA rotors and installed near new slotted 324mm ones.

The reason it took so long was I had to get the dog bones installed, which meant I had to get bolts that don't exist. M12 x 1.25 x 55. Had to settle for a length of 70, but that length meant it would hit the rotor. So I cut them down. But the other problem was that those bolts have a shank... the thread doesn't go the full length of the bolt, and not far enough to secure the calliper properly, so then I had to buy a die and cut the thread myself. Of course this is easy to describe now, but when you can't take a calliper and hub and rotor into these places, it all happened one small success at a time. Punctuated by multiple failures of course. Anyway, now all good.

300 Days (would you believe 301 days) after buying the Zed, now with the fully rebuilt TT engine, serviced gearbox, lots of cleaning, fiddling around checking this and that I got to start the motor and take it for a squirt up the street. Yeeha.
The patience in rebuilding the motor the slight upgrades = I have a sweet running Zed. No noises in the motor and a Zed close to registration.
For all those out there doing a rebuild, Patience and a plan of what you need to do is a good tip. We did all the jobs one at a time and crossed them off the list, and one day there were no more jobs on the list to do. Mission accomplished. Well nearly.

    Finished! well sort of.
Arranged a permit to drive down from the workshop in Brisbane where we fitted the engine etc to the Gold Coast. My first proper drive in my Zed. Still some small jobs to do to get her puuurrrfect.
She is however ready for RWC inspection especially after I fix a few minor things.
Another Zed saved from being wrecked back on the road.

Hopefully found my vacuum leak (the 'plugs' I used to cover the original Recirc valve ports weren't tight), and also removed a PCV hose (front left, joining rocker cover to turbo inlet) as it was split.

Just now ordered a new hose from carcraze, and hopefully I will see it before next weekend.
