I will most likely be stuffed this weekend, got a job interview and also might need to get across town to pick up the zed (if its ready at a reasonable time). Otherwise I might have to get down there Saturday.

Still, Im going to wait for Tom to tell me its ready before making any plans.

When its done, I will put on a BBQ and aus300zx members will be welcome to come by, meet, have a brew and checkout the quality of my ~9 month build.

If your lucky my girlfriend will be cooking up a storm, if not its snags on the BBQ courtesy of myself.

damn dude, i feel for you, this is why i do all my own zed work.

I could of sent you the power steering pipe from my breaker in that amount of time, in fact i could of flown over to aus, removed your engine, checked your turbos, fitted your power steering pipes, replaced your bolts and had the engine back in the car in 2 days. what on earth was taking so long. most of the power steering pipes can be done with the engine in place.

I've just done a engine and gearbox change, replaced the turbos and swapped all my fancy stuff over, deleted the EGR valve system, the carbon canister, the PRVR system and the AVI's, plus done a water by pass, in 2 days out the front of my apartment, in the car park with the car on ramps.

Tom got hold of me about midday (had to leave a voice mail as i was at a meeting), anyway turns out my MAF (or whatever they are called on the zeds) was faulty, previously there were no issues but the engine has sat so long who knows.

Anyway, he asked if I wanted to source a newy at the standard $400 or hunt around for a spare, still not having a reliable car I said **** it, buy a new one so we can get this finished.

Get called up about 3pm, new MAF installed and its all running sweet, I will be picking it up tomorrow morning (**** battling peak hour traffic from thornlie to clarkson and back at that time).

He also let me know there is a small chip in the windscreen that may have occurred while the car was at the shop, will be checked and fixed under store insurance.

    Will post tomorrow with results.

This looks like it, matches my colours and my rather dingy engine bay :p

I've been following this thread for ages and you deserve a great result.
I sure hope for your sake Tom delivers. Threads like this can't be doing his already damaged reputation any good.
Happy motoring to you pal.:br: If not, I'm sure we'll hear about it.

Well I got the car home.

The DET sensor was left off this rebuild, Im of mixed thoughts on this but oh well.
Only running ~3-5 psi atm (basically safety boost) for the first week.

Drove car home alternating between 90,10,110km/h nice and smooth.
Got to my home street, did some mild bog laps up and down the street and my luck being what it is the engine has developed a shake under load. Feels like a spark plug is missing, I could also smell a stinky electric burning smell briefly but could not narrow it down to the car or neighbours burning some shit.

Ive called tom to let him know, he suggested disconnecting the O2 sensors and retrying which I will do once the car has cooled down.

Makes me wonder weather the rough running Tom experienced before swapping the MAF was the problem Im currently experiencing.

Staring at my engine while running, I poke one of the spark plug connectors.....
it drops ~5mm and suddenly engine smooths out :p

Might have to get out the blutak to fix this problem.

Why would you leave it off though? It's a pain in the arse to fit once the engine has been assembled...

oh yeah, it is impossible to fit when its all together, probaly didnt fit it since most people bypass it anyway

Get to your local wreckers and look for a late model Nissan Pulsar. Been a while, but pretty sure its the N14. If you look down the passenger side chassis rail, towards the firewall, you will find a connector, identical to the Z32 Coilpack connector.
SHOULD be in perfect condition (lot less heat under the bonnet and later model car).

A lot cheaper option than buying new genuine coilpack connectors if all you require is 1.

im just going to play devils advocate since tom is not here. i am not affiliated with him in anyway though. never even met him

The rack end is nothing to do with the rebuild, thats just wear and tear.

the sumps can be difficult to seal up on these cars since they are stuck on so well from factory, its easy to warp the sealing face on removal. its hard to tell if afront main seal is leaking without striping it down, the front of a sump gasket leak can look the same

as i said on the other thread, rocker cover leaks are common and can run down the block which looks like ahead gasket leak.

give it a good degrease and run it up to see where exactly these leaks are and how bad they are.

If you have not cleaned it in 40'000 kays and all you have is some stains or wet spots on the block i would be happy with that,

If you need a drip tray on your garage floor, then thats another story
