Hi just wondering if you can put tension rods off commodore on Z32???

    :rofl::rofl::rofl:

Just kidding!!! Please people read on. >>>

    I have 2 problems with my Z.

    1. Major ABS shudder on front RHS.
    2. Huge camber discrepancy. 14 5/16" RHS & 15" LHS

This measurement I have taken from inside mudguard without mudflap thingy (as I am taking guards off to repaint) to center of wheel.

Now I am not expecting by replacing the tension rods and/or bushings to rectify ABS shudder. But I am hoping it may and I will be changing them anyway.

So to the point of my question.

Can anyone recommend for or against any particular adjustable tension rods?

Are adjustable tension rods legal for street use??

My main concern is buying rubbish. The few I have seen are aluminum which I do not like the sound of. Surely they would have to be legal because IMO you really need to be able to adjust the camber angle for safety. Also the measurements I made were pretty makeshift and the first ones I have made on this car. Rest assured I will be checking these again, and again, and again, and yeah. I think you get the point. Will measure again and post.

PS. Commodore tension rods won't fit and yes, they are crap.

    SPL tension rods.

Recommend to me by Tim, I think they're great. Been using for well over a year now, no noise or issues.

    From rear of guard approx.

    RHS 24 1/16"
    LHS 24 5/8"

Cheers, not criticising those whatsoever. But I think titanium is a softer metal. Well softer than most steel anyway. Point being they're light I suppose.

    Love that signature BTW

Nah mate titanium is very hard, lightweight too. The actual rod itself isn't titanium, just the locking nut and some screws I believe.

Thanks for correcting me there. I definitely read that somewhere. Can't always believe what you read I guess. Especially on the net. Cheers

Also I dunno if this is a common discrepancy on these cars? 1/2"

I just replaced the LHS front lower arm and tension rod in VT commondoor because it was pretty much "unsafely" bump steering to LHS (and their crap). Bumpsteer's gone and both sides are a sweet 23 1/4" from center of wheel to rear of guard.

    Cheers

PS Sorry I have been quoting as camber angle. This is caster angle. Front to rear not top to bot.

    Caster angle.

Replacing a stuffed tension rod bush totally cured the brake shudder that i had. The factory tension rod bushes are gel filled and it sounds like its failed which explains the difference in lengths. i think you've got it wrong with the idea that you adjust camber with them.
Thats done with the upper control arm, the tension rod will adjust/correct the caster angle.
Adjustable tension rods are not illegal but spherical bearings are. Those Spl rods and ones like it are illegal . Just because people here have been using them for years dosn't make them less illegal, what you need is a adkustable tension rod with a rubber or urethane bush to be legal.
Hardrace make a set if your that way inclined.

Yeah, realised this just before you post by the looks. But I am measuring caster.

Spherical bearings illegal eh. Suppose that rules out adjustable steering rod ends. For bumpsteer that is. Not toe in.

    Cheers

It is illegal, though I doubt you'll ever be pulled up on it. They almost look factory cause they're black, not anodised orange or anything stupid like that.

You could shove bushes over the top of pinion bearing and they probably wouldn't know the difference. Can't find any adjustable without spherical bearings. Oh well will keep looking.

Which brings me to the point of ball joints. These are spherical bearings and buggered if I'm gunna bother looking for a car without a ball joint.

Is the point here that the female spherical ball joint is the problem as opposed to a male bearing on your typical ball joint?

The risk is probably not being pulled up by the cops, but if you have an accident, and the insurance company 'engineer' notices these and deems your car unroadworthy due to illegal suspension components, you could find yourself not covered. Possibly unlikely this would happen, but might not be worth the risk?

Nice, Also I do prefer to buy Australian Made or at least from Australia.

Anyone know what materials are going on here???

Contact details for this Perth mob???

I guess a standard type bushing would make life easier down the track.

    Egg ....

    Hardrace are the best

    Mainly because they're also legal.

If you're looking to save some cash just buy a set of these eBay cheapies.
They're very industrial and heavy, don't look fantastic but they are VERY strong... the rod end isn't great, but easy to replace with a quality item... can be bought for about $70
These cheapies are stronger then a lot of the well known brands!!!!

    100% agree.
I have been using Tune Agent Tension Rods for around 3 years(without any issues). :zlove:

My previous Cusco's lasted about 9 years until one decided to snap in two(right at the base of the threaded section). Luckily, I was only traveling at about 10-15kph(just stopping at the Traffic Lights).:br:
