I assumed by the first post that it was unregistered. You don't if it still registered, you just need to go to a registered inspector. The one I use is very good :)

Didn't realise. I was told it had to be Dickson.

No it didn't need to go to Dickson. Few cars do. However, the mechanic I took it to couldn't find a compliance plate and said was referring me to Dickson. He explained to me that they don't make any money from road worthies and they do not take risks when they are not sure about the legality of something and risk losing their licence. I've been through Dickson before. They aren't Jerks IMO, they are just more thorough and follow the rules better than most mechanics. Plus they are quick and don't make up things to repair to get more money from you.. I am happy to know that a Dickson pass means I shouldn't have any future issues with roadside inspections etc. :)

I just went and bought both of those products gmbrezzo. Do you recommend using scratch X 2.0 all over where the paint is no longer shiny?

Welcome to ACT Zedder fold - great to hear that our local family is growing!

    :D

Some handy tips for our slice of heaven :)p)...

If you need parts, throw a PM to Zedmd... If he doesn't have it, he can usually point you in the right direction... If it's a local brain you want to pick on mechanical issues, then again I'd recommend contacting Zedmd, Madcow, and DoubleZX... They're all top fella's, and a God-send for mechanical retards like me! ;)

    Welcome to the family!!!

    Lil' Baz..... :zlove:

    Thanks Lil' Baz!
I took it to Southern Diffs in Phillip for a pinion seal and wheel bearing. They are currently finding it difficult to find either!

Try a patch and see what you think.
I use it on "Kitty" if I need to bring the shine up.
Once you have a good surface, then use the "wet look" polish which contains carnauba wax.
You'll find the polish cloth will slide across the paint with no effort after, and the water will just bead off.
The pamphlets at the shop explain the use of the products.
A proper clean/polish can take up to 4hrs with paint, glass, plastics, and chrome. (oh and vacuum)
So worth all the hard work.

Mothers polishes are also an excellent product.

Not a fan of kitten and the other cheap products. They don't last.

In general, if you can't find something that you definitely want brand new (like is essential for any seal, for example), as suggested in ryzan's post, send an email to Coz at Concept Z ( coz@myczp.com )... He is BRILLIANT!

Coz has even sourced parts etc. for me that aren't even listed on his website!

Oh, and I may be wrong, but I think that Zedmd has a diff - if you're still after one...

I gave it a go on one of the "oxidized" bits and this was the result. The patch now doesn't show any white.. but the result is an off colour and larger spot.. Smooth now though ;-)
Do you know of anything to fix it up further?
Thanks for your help so far!

Now I can see the pics, it looks like the clear coat has weathered through, due to poor upkeep.
The only real fix is respray, but with the polish applied it looks a whole lot better than the first pic.
There are two different layers, hence the colour difference.
The clear coat outter appears "darker" as the actual paint layer has faded.
Check the other Meguires/Mothers products to see if there is a colour restorer.
You could use a cut-n-polish or cutting compound, but then you run the risk of "cutting" through the paint layer to the undercoat.
Then you'll have a white spot that is highly visable :( not good.

Also ask a panel shop what they recommend, the bet is the first words out of their mouths will be resparay.
At least the polish application will slow the deterioration further.

Hey thanks for the plug Iain! much appreciated.

As Iain has stated i do have a spare diff laying around, i also have a pair of rear muflers to suit a 2+2 if you want them? they have a nice note and are not loud at all!
Oh, i can also hook you up with a good condition wheel hub too!

And when you want to do the rear main seal, i can also do that aswell. I have all the cool tools to do the job quickly and have done it heaps of times.
Send me a Pm if your keen.

    cheers
    Anthony

Ahh thanks. So it's definitely through the clear coat huh? No worries. I won't be shelling out the money for a spray job. Perhaps later on I will motivate myself to give it a respray myself.. I have the tools and have had practice on an old HQ that my friend and I sprayed for fun. Came up alright and we learnt a lot about the process.
Colour restorer huh. I'll look into that soon. Thanks.
