ok . . the slick tops . . . . The research I did early on suggested that all up Nissan made just over 9000 slick tops but I no longer have the source pages saved. I am currently looking for more. I am not sure that 2500 all up sounds right. Here in Geelong alone there are 4 that I know of including mine. If anyone has any actual source pages or knowledge here, let me know. I would love to know just how "rare" these slick tops are. Peace also found this Peace
Another source I found said Still unconfirmed though. 9000 would be about 10% of the zeds out there. 4190 would be about 4.7% of Zeds out there. 2500 would be about 2.8% of Zeds out there. This would be interesting to know for SlickTop owners as it would affect future values when they become classics like the 240/260/etc Peace
There was a lot more than 90000 Z32s made, which is what your percentages imply. That stat might be referring to the number of Z32s officially exported into new car markets such as Oz, Europe & USA. Figures from Nissan Shatai show 164,170 made in total, with 99,286 exported. So the percentage figures quoted would fall by nearly half. I don't have production figures by body type, so can't confirm any of those numbers.
what? the way i read it 9000/164,170 were slick tops. Without using a calculator thats about 6% of zeds are slicks tops.
I only got the just under 90 thou stat from the "official production register". The link is provided in one of my posts below. If you have a production link that says different then please show me as it would be of much interest. If there were more than just under 90 thou Zeds made in total that would be even better for the rarity of Slick Tops since my estimate of 9000 (from various numbers of sources), is the largest and therefor most conservative of the other estimates given. Perhaps there is not much interest in this thread because there are not that many slick top owners here. Hands Up if you are a Slickster!!! Peace
Those numbers are USA only I believe, they only had 90-96 only, and whilst they break down the NA into 2 seater and 2+2, there is only a turbo number, and as we know the turbo models were all 2 seaters in the USA. And its also titled "The US Nissan 300ZX Registry". :bash: So if 89,000 odd in the USA and 99,000 (as quoted by RZM) odd exported from Japan, that's only 10,000 odd in the rest of the world. (obviously JDM exports aside).
If there was a Zed I would consider locking in a shipping container on blocks for 20 years, it would be a slicktop.
Even better for us slick top owners if that is the case because the percentages would go down. Instead of a conservative estimate of 10% at the high end, if there are actually more normal Zeds out there then that makes our lil Slickster even rarer. schweeeet. It would be great if I could find the actual production numbers but the webside would probably be in japanese. Peace
I don't have an on-line link - but here is a scan from Brian Long's book (2004) "Nissan 300ZX 350Z The Z-car Story". Interesting to see that they list some build in 2008, almost all of which were exported. Given the way the car industry works, I would believe that to be possible. They always need to build cars and get them shipped to dealers so there is stock available when the car is actually released for sale. Here in Oz it can be a 3 month gap, and that is when the car is built here.
There is a register of all US Z32's at http://www.thezregistry.com You can search on lots of different criteria, and for 'solid' roof you get this 2539 VINs out of a possible 89158 VINs found matching your selections. (2.84775342650127 %) Convertible returns 3846 VINs out of a possible 89158 VINs found matching your selections. (4.31369030260885 %) so in the US, a slick top is rarer than a convertible Neither the convertible nor the slick top came as a turbo This is US only, not even Canada is included If somebody with a bit of database skills could pull the data out of FAST, we could get the same sort of statistics out of the Jap spec production.
Great info but this bit is wrong. I know the convertables were all NA. However We recently worked on a factory slicktop TT. The engine numbers tell ya everything you need to know and its engine number was designated dett. Peace
Well the japs did em in TT then and US didnt . . . . Either way, the slickster was available with all of the options that a normal Targa was according to the old brochures.
2,240 is another number I have found at the automotivehelper.com forum. Seems to be a good source as he has a lot of information but still, not completely confirmed. I am on a mission to find the true number of slicksters made.. . . . . Found this on nico forums . . . . the 2240 seems to be the number made and sold in the US and therefor doesnt apply to us RHD people. I need the Jap figures as the RHD Slickster is only available as an import (as you all know) From continued searching I have found that the 2240 is definitely the US production number and they were only made as an NA manual in the US with the only the JAP version being optioned as either NA or TT, manual or automatic. Also, as an added note. This was the "RACE" model as Nissan had to have a hard top model for them to be able to enter certain kinds of race events such as the Trans Am, 24 hours of Daytona and the 24 hour LeMans. After the LeMans 24 hour, the TT was deemed "illegal" for future race use in this class. So for anyone who has a Slicketer out there, yours is the race model. Peace
