I had a look at it with zcar91 when we thought it was a VG30DETT, it looks to have the goods. Good luck with it. Glad to see it's found a good home.
Thanks mate, it should be a good thing. I always wanted to have a go at a single turbo Zed, and knowing when I did it wasn’t going to be a road car when this came along it was too good to pass up. Still a lot of things to sort out yet, but it should all come together pretty well in the end.
I’m sure it serves a purpose, but I think the bonneville bulge is too rounded. Much prefer a wider flatter bulge exactly like the XR8 bonnets
yeah the purpose was mainly to drive the car up the road to the inspection station without getting pulled over. what i was doing was legal i just didn't want any extra attention or canaries. can you even get a canary in an unregistered car?
Bit of an update, have been making the intercooler and piping which is all done now, i haven't fitted the BOV as of yet, that will depend on where the radiator and associated pipework will end up. I haven't pressure tested it yet, time will tell how those welds hold up lol
Hey that's awesome and mate say what you will about the welding I've seen plenty of commercially produced parts that don't fit that tight... keep it up!
Thanks Rob. It does fit up pretty well, but I’d hate to pay someone to spend the time on it that I did lol A lot of cutting a bit off here and their, back and forth fitting and refitting. Good result in the end
A bit of an update, I have the fuel system plumbed up, using a Holley 12-1800 pump and Holley fuel reg, running -10 aluminium hard line from the tank to a T-piece down to -8 Teflon to feed the fuel rails and to reg, then back to -10 hard line for the return. Also have the trans cooler mounted and plumbed, trans cooler is a Derale job, and the catch can mounted and plumbed.
A few more pics, Have mounted the radiator and routed the pipe work, The radiator has had a bleed pipe built into one of the tanks that will plumb into the filler neck in the top hose.
This is looking really good but where will the spare wheel go? Did you have to re-mount the thermo fan? i thought ARE was making it to suit the recommended Spal fan? Hows the throttle cable feel at that angle?
Thanks Mate. The spare? Well i might have to strap it too the roof lol - Na wont be carrying one. ARE made up the mount on the rad, but the holes were a few mm out, so i just re-drilled them. I haven't mounted the throttle cable as of yet, its just kinda sitting there, im going to have to make a bracket up and weld it onto the intake near the throttle body. I have had someone hold it there while using the throttle peddle, and i think it will work ok
Your doing a great job! However I can see many hours still to go and many engineering challenges to come. Most heavily modified cars become living projects because they never seem to finish. They just keep evolving. Mine certainly does. You take 1 item off the to do list and find another 2 to go on.
Thanks Ivan. Still a little way to go yet, main aim is to get it running, then fix bugs as they appear. I know what you mean Re big projects never seem to be finished.
You will need the weight of the spare for traction, maybe on the hatch would look best. i would have thought the ARE would be perfect for the $. i thought the throttle cable was mounted as it sits. I should have know better considering the rest of the fab work. Personally i find with any project i loose interest once i have it all worked out and all thats left to do is the hard work. its the figuring out thats most enjoyable. It's really hard to do the finishing.
Definitely not loosing interest, but finding time is a challenge. If I could, I’d be in the shed all day, but apparently I have other things to do
